We had the good fortune of connecting with David Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s, all we had were records. My parents had a very large record collection and I can remember my pops always playing records while he cooked dinner for us. Fast forward to the mid 1980s when Hip Hop was just kicking off, I decided that I wanted to be the DJ of our group of friends and started buying my own records. Skipping lunch and using my lunch money to buy records was a frequent thing. In the 90s when records were on the decline for most people, I still collected records and soon amassed a collection of a few thousand.

After I got fired from my corporate job in 2017 I decided to open a record shop. It was a very scary decision because even though the media was claiming that a vinyl resurgence was going on, I wasn’t 100% sure that opening up a record shop was a business that would take off.

In May 2023 we will be celebrating our 6 year anniversary and its been a fun ride but there have definitely been some hard months. Our shop located is in our hometown of Belmar NJ and while Belmar is a beautiful town, it is also a beach town and that means that the Spring and Summer months are great but the Fall and Winter and very tough for all businesses. The slow months are challenging but we learned to incorporate more online sales during those months to help keep us going.

Moving forward we will continue to be the Jersey Shores “Vinyl Only/Analog Only” record shop. A father and son shop that will continue to supply our customers and friends with the best records we can get our hands on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
New Jersey is a beautiful state, we have miles of beautiful beaches as well as the Pinelands forest down south and some great views of the NYC skyline up north. Located right in between New York City and Philadelphia, NJ has a lot to offer. From Wildwood to Ocean City to Hoboken there are tons of exciting places to visit and eat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I would like to shout out is without a doubt my 9 year old son Ethan. He was born surrounded by vinyl records and he has been a huge part of why we are successful today. He was just 3 years old when we opened our shop and he quickly became the face of Lofidelic Records. Many of our customers watched him grown up over the years and love to see him on all our social media posts. He is the reason I do this and I couldn’t do it without him.
