Meet David Lee | Singer-Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what makes you happy? Why?
Two things that make me happy are creating music and making others happy. When creating music, I can express myself and connect to the people listening. I love when artists speak to their fans and connect on a personal level. Being able to reach out to my audience through my personal experiences is really cool. I feel a responsibility to cheer others up. There are already so many negative things in the world, so much pain and anxiety with our generation. I feel like the least I can do is check up on people. My goal in life is to be an inspiration and role model to the next generation. I want the world to finally have a moment of peace and unity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Throughout the years, I have become a multi-instrumentalist, on a constant mission to perfect the piano, guitar, bass, drums, and ukulele. I’ve performed live shows at famous venues such as the Whisky a GoGo in Hollywood, House of Blues Anaheim, The Viper Room, the National Association of Music Merchants Show (NAMM) and many, many more. Since 2019, I’ve been a solo artist writing and producing my original music. I am SUPER proud of my song, “HERE FOR YOU” which is my fastest-growing song yet with almost 10K streams. This song was completely written, produced, mixed, and mastered by me. I’ve won numerous songwriting awards and was featured in the PBS show “Celebration of Music” as recipient of the Producers Choice Award. A challenge that I have faced is being an independent artist. Without a record label, I had to create my own team and promote my music on my own. Over the years, I’ve learned how to edit music videos which saves a lot of time and money. I want the world to know that you can make a difference with hard work and that dreams really do come true. My latest single, “Falling, Pt. 2” releases on February 14th, 2022.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing we would do is go to Disneyland. I am a huge Disney fan and it really is the happiest place on earth. Next we would get Panda Express. I absolutely love Panda Express. I would order a double orange chicken plate with steamed rice and a medium strawberry Fanta. The following day, we would go to a movie theater.  I love movies on the big screen and I love the snacks, specifically buttered popcorn and Airhead soft bites. Last but not least, we would go to the beach. I have so much fun at the beach and it’s a nice place to chill. We would maybe skateboard and go surfing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out Rockstars of Tomorrow. I have been taking lessons there since I was 4 years old and I’ve learned so much. I would say that 75% of everything I know about music was as a result of being a Rockstars student. I didn’t come from a background of musical artists. My parents recognized that I had a passion and talent for music. My mom and I were inspired after watching a concert in the park in our neighborhood featuring this business. There was some hesitation being so young and taking me on as a student but Michael Anderson, the founder, said yes. I began taking lessons out of his living room. Since then, Michael and I have built a strong family like friendship. I can honestly say this organization became my second family. The dream and code of ethics have helped Rockstars of Tomorrow grow out of a living room to several studios / franchises. They have also taught me about hard work and perseverance.
