We had the good fortune of connecting with David Navarro Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, how do you think about risk?
I have found taking risk has allowed me to explore different cities and take different job opportunities. I never want to have that “I wonder” cloud hanging over my head. Living out of my comfort zone has lead me here in Los Angeles where I started my firm DTANK+

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
DTANK + is a custom furniture design firm and fabricator. My firm is a creative house where we collaborate with Architects & Interior Designers with their custom furniture pieces. I got into this business 6 years ago with firm called dTank. At that time the founder was looking to add a sales/ marketing team member. My extensive sales experience and experience in the furniture industry with my family business made me a perfect candidate. I went from working with residential clients to commercial clients. dTank not designed furniture we also engineer, fabricate and install. Offering a full turn key service to the A&D community was the missing niche in the custom furniture market. I dedicated 2 years of no vacations and tons of over time to learn the ends and outs of the business. My role at the firm changed from account manager, Sales Director to the president. Unfortantly with Covid hitting the commercial industry pretty hard the founder of dTank decide to not continue and step down. I took a risk and decided to continue his legacy and DTANK+ was born. Being a creative house we offer so much more than furniture design and fabrication. The + allows us to do company branding, fragrances, and our own line of commercial furniture. In 2021 I expanded with an office in Houston Tx. Although DTANK+ works all over the USA, I felt it was important to have a strong presence in Texas with many companies moving there.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The inside joke is that when you come visit me the first time I will give you the tourist experience and it will be quick. (Lol) That will include the Hollywood sign, Runyon Canyon, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Griffin Park, and Melrose. For food it’s always a taco truck that they found on tic tok. Although I am a good cook so I do a lot of cooking while I have guest visiting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank two very special women in my life that help mold my work ethic and drive to become an entrepreneur , Debora Smail & Mary Blumer. These two raised me since I was 11 years old and was introduced to the furniture industry at a young age as we owned 2 furniture retails stores in Houston TX and one in SF. Seeing their sacrifices and all the ups and downs of being your own boss motivated me to one day following in their footsteps.
