Meet David Victory | Fashion Photographer Los Angeles

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Victory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I don’t like 9-5 jobs, especially remote or at home ones! because entrepreneurship is in my DNA. I am a man of a thousand ideas and believe in the saying by Mark Twain — ‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.’

At age 5 my dad gave me a plastic lens Chinese Diana camera and I have not looked up since then, so I put a leash on my mind and followed my heart, all and I mean all of my family and friends followed the university and 9-5 corporate ladder career path, but I took the high road to an artistic life. Above all the satisfaction is the reason why I started my own “business” of fashion photography in Los Angeles

Because its all play and fun for me, yes there are tangents and deltas I have to navigate in order to stay a fashion photographer in this day and age of information technology, but its well worth the effort

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Do you have a budget? How do you think about your personal finances and how do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?

Money is a value we assign to things, if there was only one red rose bush in the world, how much money would a rose be worth?

I prioritize, and look at the value a certain thing has, either in ROI or ROL (return on life)
So I don’t care if you are a rothschild, at the end we will both take none of it with us, except the life lessons and experiences, its the character building that counts the most, IT is the only thing we take with us and return back with

My highest expenditure is on travel and I have been to 75 cities worldwide and counting, why?
because its the best money you can spend and the highest return on life you can get

Risk taking: how do you think about risk, what role has taking risks played in your life/career?

Without risk, birds wouldn’t fly and rockets wouldn’t go to space,
I took a huge risk by choosing my career path of fashion photography and continue doubling down on this risk every day, I and all artists like me are on our own insurance, retirement. 401k etc etc However the greatest risk is not taking the risk when you are given such a talent

Where are you from and how did your background and upbringing impact who you are today?

I come from a Jewish family from Iran, a tiny minority within a minority, and was lucky enough to see Iran’s golden days under the Shah who brought many blessings to my life, I experienced the Jewish the Persian and American cultures first hand and that has given me a unique perspective as an artist and human

I am not religious at all and know full well where I come from and where I am going after this life, we are given amnesia and don’t know who we are at all, unless illuminated by the emissaries

What is the most important factor behind your success / the success of your brand?

Tenacity, I am a Taurus Tiger and stop at nothing until I reach my goal, I believe in doing and taking risk and staying in the game till the end, when I started my current fashion photography iteration of my website in 2014, I was on page 16 of google, and now on page 1

I had to learn all of this on my own because there is none who could do it for me, and much of my business success does depend on this one fact alone, organically ranking on page 1

What value or principle matters most to you? Why?

Not wasting my talent and living my destiny, I know so many miserable successful business people who wish they could have if they would have, but they didn’t and now know they should have

Work life balance: how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?

People work to live, I live to work

What’s the end goal? Where do you want to be professionally by the end of your career?

I really aspire to be signed up by an agency and quit managing and marketing myself, I will gladly give up 50% of my business so I can just do my business, photography

Why did you pursue an artistic or creative career?

Fashion photography is my destiny, I have a talent for it and a love for creating visuals using a time machine we call the camera!
I once was in a car alone with a crown prince who was driving behind the wheel and I asked him, if you were not destined to be king what would you liked to have been, and he answered “I would have liked you job”

Tell us about a book you’ve read and why you like it / what impact it had on you.

Many lives many masters by Brian L. Weiss, because it opened my eyes to meaning of life and put me on a path of discovery of learning much more about who I really am
