Meet Dean Singleton: Cinematographer & Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dean Singleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dean, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I don’t think I saw it that way, at least to begin with. I’ve always loved capturing moments in their most honest form. I also grew up admiring my friends, individually they all brought something different to the table. They were funny, angry, loving, supportive & I knew I wanted to remember the time I spent with everyone. That concept & time taught me how brief & unexpected those moments are, but how beautiful & impactful each one can be.
Eventually that led to paid travel & the opportunity to document people all over the world. That’s really what drives my creative force – a new experience. I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing people & can’t wait to see what comes up next!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everyone has their own set of eyes behind the lens, but I do take a lot of pride in the way that I present my work. It’s still difficult to set yourself apart creatively, even if you have a vision that’s truly & honestly your own. I’ve definitely put a ton of work in throughout my career; from film school internships & a ton of networking etc. Mostly hoping to travel as much as I can in my lifetime.
I’ve also made a point to work with people & brands I’m actually excited about & definitely continue using that mindset in my current work. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with outlets like The Olympic Channel, Toyota, Oreos, Netflix, RedBull, World Animal Protection, Adidas, Nike & have been hoping to pitch a movie I’m writing sometime soon!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh yeah. I would probably take a bike ride on the LBC bike path & then grab drinks in Shoreline Village. Get a session in at my local skatepark & then California burritos at my favorite spot, its called Cantaritos on 7th & Cherry. Long Beach is a big city, but has a lot to offer anyone visiting looking to hang out near the ocean for the day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a ton of recognition to more people than I could ever list. So many rad people have stuck their neck out for me & I’m proud to let them know it’s starting to pay off. My family has been unbelievably supportive throughout my career; along with the countless friends & colleagues who’ve shown me the right way to do things in the business.
The Berrics has also been huge in the development of my craft. I owe a lot of my work ethic & process to the way I was shown how skateboarding can be so cinematically documented; while also telling some amazing stories. We have some big projects in the works – can’t wait to share them all with you!
