We had the good fortune of connecting with Deavii Machingo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deavii, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My success may be completely different from others, but I started my business out of pure love and self healing after my dad had passed. I have been able to become the person I am today by creating my art and as I grew and healed my business has evolved. I went from designing back patches and custom painted skate decks to learning the art of tarot and now my new business venture of still offering all of that and more, Happy Plant Mama. From coping when I painted, to trying to connect spiritually, I am now at my healing stage of grounding and accepting. I am now able to confidently help heal, connect with others from my humble beginnings and spread positivity/love. Through all of my experiences and encounters I have had; my success has been nothing less of a beautiful and divine blessing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Happy Plant Mama is striving to spread the word of the reduce, reuse, recycle movement and living a sustainable lifestyle all while supporting small businesses along the way. At Happy Plant Mama you can find handmade/painted goods, high vibrational items and of course plants! Starting this journey has taken much time (6 years) and patience. I want to become my purest form and I feel this brand and hobby that I am creating will get me closer to where I want to be. To be successful you have to have passion, drive and to do exactly that thing that makes you happy!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely start off with a nice decaf coffee and pastry from La Tierra Mia and head out to a pop up museum where we would take plenty of memorable pictures with my mini polaroid camera. I’ve been dying to go to crossroads vegan kitchen so that would be on the list for either lunch or dinner! Last but not least we would have to stop at a cat cafe, adopt a cat, and then get yelled at for bringing another pet home! I currently have 3 puppies, 2 kitties and 5 tortoises!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is quite a few people who have been huge supports since day one! Of course my family (Mom & Jenna, Grandparents), closest friends (Brianne, Amanda, Lupe, Karlene, Shea), and my number one supporter/other half (Chris) have been there every step of the way.
