Meet Delilah Tickles | Drag Queen

We had the good fortune of connecting with Delilah Tickles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delilah, how does your business help the community?
My business keeps Drag & the entertainment artform of drag alive and also I say being the more commercial side of drag opens alot more doors and venues which wouldn’t normal consider this type of entertainment. In turn reaching a broader audience and preahsp changing a few more minds in locations that wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to do so

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I am apart of a double act. One half of ‘The Kent Drag Queens’ between myself and Anita Wee we do shows all over the UK but mostly based in Kent. Which is a god send that we don’t have to spend hours traveling up and down the UK to do shows. But we are very much willing to travel!

Our most popular show is probably our Drag Bingo Show – We call it a show as it’s more than just a Drag Queen calling the numbers whilst telling a few jokes. You’ll have to come to experience what our shows are about! We also do a cabaret show with all different comedy routines and characters. We also host Karaoke and quizzes too! Basically if you want us we will turn up!

Being in business with your partner comes with it’s own challenges in that not only do we live together but also work together so you’d think we wouldn’t catch a break from each other. But actually we work together very well. and when needed give each other the space we need. We also have all our own different projects and jobs going on too which also allows us to take a break from each other. This i’d say also helps keep our shows more fresh for the audiences too.

Lock down during covid was a real rebound point for us. I was hosting shows prior to being locked down. Then we were faced with being stuck t home 24/7 weeks on end. We decided to then start live streaming our shows to friends and family. So we would flip out living upside down and turn it into a studio for streaming and play bingo with people all over the world. There is when Anita first started in Drag too and then the duo was born.

Since then we’ve now been booked in venues all over the UK and for cooperate clients & local pubs and clubs!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve only visited LA once. I know! However I’d be taking them striaght down to Santa Monica Pier to have a slushie and a corn dog! the vibes at the beach are just second to none and with a singer at the end of the pier providing the perfect backing track to a chilled afternoon. maybe after that we will head down to Anaheim for a trip to Disney. Whilst my life is all make up and glitz and glamour. I like to see shows myself so watching a show and riding a rollercoaster whilst eating snacks sounds like a great afternoon to me!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out would probably be my family. They are the biggest support of what I do and turn up to almost everything I do. The local pride I host seems to be a yearly gathering for them. whether they’re watching the parade or gathered in the park with the camping chairs. They show up and support every show I do. I would also like to mention the Youth Group I attended from around 11years old until I was 18 years old. They are the group which actually came up with my name ‘Delilah’ being a play on my real name ‘Dean’ And my surname ‘Tickles’ developing from ‘Heckley – Heckles and into Tickles’ so big shout out to them!
