We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetrius Clayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetrius, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by my pain, my environment, my children and my own vision for my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I wear many hats. I make music, I am currently writing my first book and I also have a podcast (Speak Freely Podcast). I am most excited about my book. i get to tell my story and share what shaped and molded me into who and what I am today. It was an uphill battle to get to where I am. I faced countless challenges and fought through much adversity. My path was not easy at all, but I’m grateful for everything because it gave me strong faith, patience, perseverance, belief in myself and character. I want the world to know that being yourself is enough.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course We’re going to Roscoe’s. That’s mandatory! We’re for sure going to Santa Monica pier, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Six Flags, In-N-Out and whatever else I could think of.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to my parents, my children, my wife, Mr. A (my high school teacher and mentor), Ms. Bray and my grandmother Ms. Edna Pearl Moody.
