We had the good fortune of connecting with Demetrius Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Demetrius, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
This is actually a really tough question. I had this huge dream of running track professionally since I was very young. I joined the military out of high school so that i could find my college career. After getting into college and walking on the track team I had done everything in my power to be great. I overcame an injury and transferred schools and gave this track thing another shot. I ended up getting injured again and at that point i knew it was time to hang up the track shoes. I came to the realization that God had bigger and better plans for me that didn’t involve me running track. To make a long story short I would say that once you’ve done everything in your power to make something happen and it just doesn’t happen for you then at that point it’s time to let it go.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out doing fitness on Instagram. After a while i started incorporating all of my personality into the app. I began dancing, raping, motivational speaking and comedy skits. I served 12 years in the army and took a leap of faith and decided to get out so that I could invest 100 percent into myself and my dreams. I am nowhere near where I want to be professionally but I don’t plan on stopping until I get there. I feel at the moment I am still trying to overcome some challenges. The main one being finding my way in the entertainment industry. Some lessons I learned along the way would be to be consistent, put yourself first and stay the course. You just never know when it’s going to be your time to shine so you stay ready so you don’t have to get ready! Stay focused and be disciplined. What I would want the world to know about me is that I am a very honest, loving and genuine person. I am dedicated to my craft and i work hard!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For starters I would definitely take them to Hollywood and put them on one of those tours so that they can see all of the famous spots and places. After that it would take them to the Santa Monica pier. The next morning we would get up and hit Runyon canyon to get a good workout in. For food I would take them to boss’a nova and Harriet’s rooftop. After that we would definitely hit six flags and disneyland.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout-out my dad Gregory Jenkins and my stepmom Wanda Jenkins. Since I was little I watched both of them get up and go. My dad served 20 plus years in the army and my stepmom served 14. My dad is my definition of Superman.
