We had the good fortune of connecting with Denize Verduzco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denize, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Arleta, California and after marrying my husband Miguel Verduzco in 2015, we moved to Lancaster, California. Both my parents were born and raised in Mexico and later migrated to the United States to pursue the American dream. Watching my father advance in life with only a 3rd grade education has had one of the biggest impacts in my life. I witnessed first hand my father’s worth ethic, ambition to succeed, and a relentless attitude to better himself and achieve the American dream. Through this example, I realized that whatever I set my mind to, I could achieve, My father always taught us that the only limitations or hurdles that existed, were those we placed ourselves. In addition to my family, my faith has played a major role in shaping me into the person I am today. Through my faith and mentors, I have healed, I have grown, I have felt the tug to restore broken people and systems.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I was young, I have always been an advocate for justice and have held a desire to empower and restore the broken, whether it be people groups or systems. As I discovered my love for writing, I realized how strong written and spoken words are when you allow God to use them as He pleases. Restoring always comes with its challenges, but these are challenges that are worth fighting for. After becoming a mother in 2016, I founded Mommy Friend. I created this community in hopes of bringing like minded mothers who felt alone or abandoned by the world. As a mother and homemaker I realized the pivotal role that we play in society and wanted to share that wealth of information with other women, Mommy Friend has been able to create a community of women who uplift one another, help one another, and learn from one another. Mommy Friend has been able to donate to women who are pregnant and needing additional resources. Through mentorship, we have been able to help young mothers learn practical life skills. Most importantly, we have been able to help women and mothers find their true value and worth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie, so if my best friend is visiting the area I am taking her to eat at Complexity Wine or Broken Bit Steakhouse. Complexity Wine offers a splendid Charcuterie Board, tasty Seafood Pasta, and the most delicious Apple Crumble Cheesecake. At Broken Bit Steakhouse I would opt for the Wagyu Steak and Brussel Sprouts. For a long weekend trip, I would definitely check out Lancaster Blvd, I would set a day to walk the Blvd, do some shopping, and grab a cup of coffee. We would check out a performance at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center and finish the night at Lucky Lukes with a delicious burger and Korean sliders.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big shoutout goes to my mentor, Linda Enos. Linda has been a tremendous gift through her encouragement, training, and personalized strategic approach. As a mentor, Linda has an overall healthy outlook of success. As she mentors, she ensures there is a well balanced dynamic between family and work life. Furthermore, she is verbal about wanting her ceiling to be our floor. When you have mentors that are willing to go through the trenches, and put action to words, it makes success that more attainable.
