We had the good fortune of connecting with DeshPlease and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeshPlease, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risks is crucial to growth both personally and professionally in any industry. Being a creative, taking risks has become part of my daily routine. I’m constantly trying to expand my knowledge, learn new skills or push myself to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Specifically finding ways to stretch new muscles and challenge myself when it comes to songwriting has been my focus for the past few months. I’m my own worse critic, (always striving for perfection) yet I’m surprised how much I’ve been enjoying the variety and depth of styles I’ve found myself exploring. A few months back I started teaching myself how to play piano and I’m amazed at how learning one new instrument alone has broadened the scope of my songwriting by leaps and bounds.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artist name is Deshplease on all platforms. I’m an independent music artist and content creator. My dad bought me my first guitar in high school and that’s when I started writing songs. I’ve lost count but I have a backlog of somewhere around 200+ songs just waiting to be produced and put out into the world. I recently picked up a daw, Logic Pro and have been slowly learning how to create my own demos. I’m a very visual storyteller. In addition to writing songs, I’ve written a few feature films and even developed a television series. Whenever I write a song I almost aways have a music video in mind as well. I’ve recently started filming and editing my own music videos using various forms of media. I think what sets me apart is my ability to write in any genre. The past few years I’ve done a ton of collaborations and I’ve enjoyed experimenting with styles I never thought I’d explore. My musical influences are all over the place which is why I think I have such a hard time staying in one box when it comes to the music I like to make. Sometimes a melody for a total rock song will come to me and other times it’s completely raw, very singer-songwriter. As an indie artist, I like being able to focus on whatever style is best for the particular song without having to stick to one singular sound. That being said, the majority of my music falls into a genre I call “Cry Pop” which is mostly sad yet catchy pop songs you want to sing (and cry) along to. My goal this year is to record an EP or possibly even an entire album with one of my dream producers. (keep an eye out for that!) Over the years I’ve been in several bands, performed countless shows, done karaoke, open mic nights, battle of the bands, radio contests – you name it. I even went to an arts high school where I had to do several rounds of auditions before being accepted. I think my biggest challenge has been finding like-minded people as dedicated to their craft. I’ve met and worked with so many talented people over the years but in the past I was always been the one pushing to make things happen. As a solo artist, I like not having to rely on other people to get things going. However, I do believe there is something magical about surrounding yourself with other creative people who all excel at different things, who all share your passion and motivation and drive and the combination of those people working together can create something truly special. I know those people are out there. This year I plan on reaching out to those whose work I admire and hope I can start collaborating with others who share my artistic vision and can help me bring my music and creative storytelling ideas to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places to explore in LA and OC. Even San Diego. Going to see a local band play in downtown LA is a must. There are so many cool sights to see, street art, rooftop bars and more. Anaheim has the Anaheim Packing House and some amazing hiking trails with a great view of the city. San Diego has some fantastic brunch spots and bars to explore for a girls night out. The beach is always a great spot for drinks, views and some vitamin D!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so incredibly thankful to my family for their endless support. Ever since I was a child and first expressed an interest in entertainment, they have been so incredibly supportive. I could never repay them for all the time, effort and money they’ve invested in me over the years. Not only are they supportive but they have a general interest in everything I do, between my music and the different types of content I create on YouTube and Twitch. It means more than I can put into words and I love how into all of it they are. I also have the most supportive parter in the world. Working for yourself and chasing a dream has it’s ups and downs and I’m so fortunate I have someone by my side who believes in me, who brings out the best in me, and who I can enjoy the journey with every step of the way. I’d also like to give a big shoutout to my amazing community both on Twitch and YouTube, especially my moderators who do SO much for me on a daily basis. They are my biggest fans and my closest friends and they go above and beyond with all the ways they show their support. It means the world having so many people who can relate to my lyrics or are moved by my music. Songwriting has always been very therapeutic for me and hearing others say my songs resonate with them or impact them in a such a powerful way is an indescribable feeling.
