Meet Destiny Freidin | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Freidin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is 100% necessary in terms of achieving your goals in life. And if there’s no risk, there’s most likely no reward. Especially in the entertainment industry, every single day is essentially a risk that you could either fail, or not book another audition, or get another rejection. However, I think with taking the risks to fully dive into your passion it makes the end result, when you finally get to the point that you’ve been looking forward to for so long, even that much more satisfying.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey has definitely taken me a long time to get to where I am today and it’s just beginning. I have been acting ever since I was eight years old when I did musical theater at school and in my local community. I always felt so free on stage, and this was the only place that I could truly express myself. Acting is such an interesting art because it truly merges you and your art together. I think it’s so amazing that it helps me discover different parts of myself with every character that I take on, and even reveals the humanity that each and every single person has such an intricate life and backstory that leads them to become who they are. I think anything in the creative industry is going to be difficult and come with its own set of challenges, but specifically with acting it’s a little tricky to show people that you actually know what you’re doing ; singers can immediately break out in song or dancers can show off their moves, but acting isn’t always as easy as crying on cue. I think what I’m most proud of in my career thus far as my short film Catching Spirits that is currently making it’s rounds in film festivals and was Oscar eligible last year. it was my first ever professional job that I booked and it still was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had to this day especially working with an amazing director, Vanessa Beletic, who is passion I also admire in terms of telling stories that have not yet been told.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE to thrift so would definitely recommend hitting up all of the flea markets (Los feliz, silver lake and melrose trading post) they’re honestly the best. If you’re into movies one of my favorite theater’s is the Alamo Drafthouse in Downtown, it’s a dine in theater that always has really cool props from movies and vintage movie posters throughout the hallways. For a fun night out with some friends I recommend going to Barney’s Beanery to eat, play pool and arcade games (some nights they have karaoke and trivia), but also one of my favs is Zebulon in Silver Lake because they have a different decade every weekend for the DJ, and finally EP&LP is a nice chill spot to just hang and catch up with some friends in the middle of weho. Some great eats are definitely Bacari (especially the Sherman oak’s location) , Juice crafters has the best acai bowls in town and LA tea is my favorite boba everrrrr

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can attribute so much of my confidence and success to my amazing acting coach Indrani Desouza. I have known her ever since I first moved out to LA when I was a small scared 18-year-old in 2019. She took me under her wing and taught me everything I know, and fully given me the freedom to believe in myself. She’s probably one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met in my life, and I admire how passionate she is towards helping actors achieve their dreams.
