We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin McGee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
After spending years of working hard to establish myself as a film/television actor in the Southeast market I decided to pick up and move to Los Angeles in the summer of 2017. Moving to a new and highly competitive market, where no one in the industry knew who I was, felt daunting. I was essentially starting over from scratch. I knew it would take some time for casting offices to become familiar with me and my work, but it was a gamble I was willing to take. Flash forward a few years later I feel like I am finally finding my groove, am starting to book, and now consider Los Angeles home! In addition to acting, I also play drums in two bands: Pronghorn and The Lovepools.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I come from a family of artisans. My grandmother was a very talented stained glass artist; my mother is a teacher and writer; my uncles were cinematographers and composers, and my father is also an accomplished stained glass artist and drummer. The past few years, my father and I have also been developing a horror comedy series about vampires which has been a great bonding experience for us both and a fun creative outlet to further express ourselves artistically. What I’ve taken away from all of their life experiences is that persistence pays off and you are never to old to learn new things, keep creating and continue evolving your art. Success happens when opportunity meets preparation (and maybe a little luck) so never stop striving to be the best version of yourself!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m vegan, and living in Los Angeles there are a ton of amazing plant based restaurants to choose from. When friends and family come to visit I like to show off the world class vegan restaurants LA has to offer. Some of my favorites are: Crossroads Kitchen, Sage Plant Based Bistro, Bodhi Kosher Vegan Thai and Doomie’s. I’m an avid outdoors lover and when I’m not in front of the camera or behind a drum set, you can usually find me surfing, hiking or snowboarding. Malibu, Point Dume and Topanga Beach are some of my favorite surf breaks and I love hiking Griffith, Runyon Canyon and Victory Trail. For winter sports, Big Bear is one of my favorite nearby mountains, since it’s only a 2 hour drive from Los Angeles.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girlfriend, Meredith Jackson, who has been my rock throughout this crazy journey and who inspired me to take the plunge and relocate to Los Angeles, dream big, and above all believe in myself.
