Meet Devin Reeve | Actor, Producer, Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Reeve and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Early in my career, I was told, by my then agent, that there could come a time where I might hit a brick wall as an actor. That I wouldn’t look young enough to play the college kid and wouldn’t look old enough to play a dad, so work as an actor could potentially slow down. Well, that actually happened in my late 20’s and when it did, I knew I needed to make some adjustments in my career if I wanted to remain relevant. As a storyteller I always had the desire to expand my career beyond acting. To evolve my career into producing, directing and writing. I felt this decision would give me longevity in the industry that I love while allowing me to take control of my career. I mean hell, if an A-list actor could become a slashy, as I call it, and be actors, writers, directors and producers all at the same time, then so could I. After taking a few years off from acting, my in front of the camera career suddenly found a new life as I continued my journey as a freelance producer. In 2016 I started Innovate Productions, LLC and I’m happy to say that the risk of investing in myself was the best thing I ever did. I’m proud to be a working slashy … actor, producer, writer and look forward to directing my first film in the near future. Interesting fact, becoming a producer made me a better actor and being an actor made me a better producer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Beginning a career in the entertainment industry is definitely challenging. As actors, directors, producers and writers we want to express ourselves through our work. We want to feel that passion burning through us as we poor all that we have into our craft for others to enjoy.
I didn’t come from a Hollywood family, nor did I have any connections when I first got started. However, what I did have was perseverance, consistency and determination. Those are the key factors that helped me find success in this crazy wild ride of an industry. In my mind nothing was going to prevent me from achieving my goals and that mindset allowed me to navigate through difficult waters when they rose. To this day I still carry that mentality because ultimately, it’s about believing in yourself regardless of what some people may think. I believe that is one of the many things that sets me apart from others along with my adaptability. My ultimate goal is to build a legacy and to continue building a successful career doing what we love, not only for my family, but for my managers and agents as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It would really depend on what events were going on during that time, but here’s list in no specific order of a few of my favorite places:
SoHo House
Zuma Beach
Day trip to Catalina Island
Harvard and Stone (always great live music)
The Dresden
Thai Town for yummy food
Magic Mountain
Jay Davis Comedy at Yamashiro’s
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Over the years I’ve had some amazing friends, mentors and coaches who always pushed me to keep going even when things got tough. It’s important to have a strong support group no matter what your life journey is. Of course, it all started with my mom and dad. Without their love, support and guidance I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Thank you to my wonderful acting coaches Stephanie Feury and Bo Jesse Christopher. And to my queen, my wife Jocelyn Kuan, thank you for your love, support and belief in all that I do.
