We had the good fortune of connecting with Devra Swiger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devra, what makes you happy? Why?
We all know it’s hard to be happy all of the time, but I find that if I have a solid routine doing things I enjoy, that I’m pretty happy most of the time. I find that if I have time to exercise, work, socialize and relax all throughout the course of a day, then I feel great.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have my own Pilates studio and I work from home. I have a limited number of clients and they tend to be over 40, fit and willing to work hard. I don’t market myself as someone who ‘kicks ass’ or guarantees a perfect bikini body after a few sessions, but I do promise better mobility, fitness, balance and overall well being. I also write. My latest book is a murder mystery that takes place in a high-end Newport Beach Yoga/Pilates studio. The killer remains at large as two detectives try to figure it out. I got the idea for the book during the pandemic. I wasn’t working much due to Covid so I had a lot of free time. I have always been an avid reader and I love to write so I decided to combine my love of writing with my knowledge of the yoga and Pilates industries. It was so much fun to write and it’s selling quite well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start out by visiting Crystal Cove State Park and walk for several hours on the beach. We would then have lunch at the Beachcomber and then do a little shopping at the center across the street. The next day we would go to Seal Beach and walk around the town and have lunch or dinner at Walt’s Wharf. I know we would do at least a day or two in LA, visiting Santa Monica, Venice Beach and West Hollywood. After that, we would need a day to hang out and relax in Huntington Beach with a trip down to Wahoo’s for some awesome fish tacos.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to say that most of my dear friends are responsible for aiding in my success. I wouldn’t be still working if it weren’t for my clients and the people who buy and read my books. I am so grateful to all of them.
