We had the good fortune of connecting with D’GORD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D’GORD, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up I was always exposed to creativity with my dad being a music producer & seeing different artist come in and out of our house studio to work I just fell in love with watching everything they were doing & I looked up to guys like Michael Jackson, Usher, & Chris Brown I just knew I wanted to be next!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is my life, every song I’ve written tells my story & something I’ve gone through in my life from heartbreak, falling in love, lack of loyalty & real life situations. Music is the way I express myself and my way of freeing my mind. Sometimes I use my music to manifest things in my life as well like claiming things will happen before it actually does. While we all have different stories & come from different lives, I think what sets me apart from others, is my passion, resilience, determination, my work ethic and drive to be better everyday and conquer my dream no matter what! Some give up, because going after your goals in this music game is not easy. There can be more disappointments and failures before you get wins and success. It can make you question your purpose, but I believe you can’t have any level of success without some failures. I am most proud & excited about my first official body of work “Broken Hearts Don’t Bleed” debut this summer! Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy it takes a great deal of self-belief and self-confidence to grow and put yourself throw different hurtles of chasing your dreams & making them a reality. Along the way I’ve learn so much but one important thing I’ve learned is if you want it you have to make it happen you can’t wait around for someone else to come save you…I’ve also learned patience, and know that nothing worth having comes easy and great things take time! I want the world to appreciate my art and my music and connect with me as someone who can get them through hard times, celebrate great times & anything in between through my voice & music.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends came to visit me in LA I have a couple spots in mind. Being that I’m originally from NJ & just moved to La I don’t know everything yet but I do have some favorite spots. We’d start the week on Monday & go to Lucky Strike King Pin Bowling have a good time with other creatives eat, drink, & bowl. Tuesday and Wednesday we’d be in the studio & maybe explore the city Thursday- Saturday WE OUTSIDE hitting spots like Hyde, Familiar Faces, Highlight Room, Dragonfly. Then Sunday we’d walk to the Hollywood sign or maybe have brunch at Harriet’s roof top.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my family, my team, GOD, & last but not least my fans who have become my family supporting my music journey! I’d be nothing without them & I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the support system I have around me.
