Meet Diamond Polk | Realtor with ACME Real Estate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Polk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been interested in real estate and was encouraged by my mom to pursue real estate after graduating from the University of Southern California. I began the process of obtaining my license which included course training and studying for my real estate exam. After tirelessly studying, I thought, I should put this pursuit on pause and live life as a carefree, 20-something-year-old in Los Angeles. Fast forward to 2019–I choose to become a single mama to the most beautiful baby girl, Blossom. I leave my job because postpartum is kicking my butt, and soon a global pandemic takes the world by storm. I realize one: life is too short to put dreams on pause, and two: real estate is an incredible opportunity for me to provide for my family, while also empowering black and brown people by providing guidance on home buying and using real estate to build wealth–using real estate as a form of activism. Once I found my why, continuing real estate was a no-brainer.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My Instagram handle is The Home Girl, so I pride myself on being my clients’ cheerleader, best pal, guardian angel, and personal linebacker. I have their best interests at heart, and I’ll also tell it like it is. A perfect analogy is encouraging us to go out and have fun, but stopping us from having that last drink–it’s not necessary. This is such an intimate, life-changing, emotional purchase, and it should be treated with care, respect, and an element of fun. For these reasons, this is why I genuinely enjoy working with first-time home buyers. We’re on this journey together, and I’m forever attached to this memory, so I’m not taking this shit lightly.
I love meeting potential clients and buyers at open houses and they exclaim they’ve never felt as welcomed, warm, or comfortable entering a space. There have been countless times when buyers repped by other agents admit they wished I was their agent instead. I’m happy to be living out my dream as a realtor, so I bring that love and enthusiasm to every aspect of my business.
I’m constantly making connections with people from all walks of life, and they all have the common goal of finding a space to call home and filling it with love. It’s the best experience and most fulfilling work. I’ve dedicated my life to being of service, so to service my clients in this impactful way, and to service my community–empowering them to transform their lives with this wealth-building tool, affirms my purpose.
My experience working as a creative, coupled with my operational skill set, allow me to have a unique and often fun approach to problem-solving and task management.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love LA. I’m fortunate to call Los Angeles my home and proudly hail from Compton, California (insert “California Love”!).
I enjoy showing people where I come from. The specific part of Compton that I grew up in is called Richland Farms. Here you’ll find community members on horses, them walking their goats, and often chickens crossing the road. People typically don’t expect this, so I relish in that element of surprise while dismantling stereotypes of this dynamic and evolving city.
From there we’re diving into more culture–visiting Grand Central Market and sampling all the incredible food, walking down Olvera Street, feasting on an Obama Special at Roscoe’s, hitting up my alma mater, USC, for a game, having a drink at The Row in LA’s Arts District, dancing in WeHo, and ending the day at the beach with some In-N-Out!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This may sound corny and cliche, but my mom and daughter are instrumental to my success. My mom instilled persistence, drive, grit, grace, compassion, and the importance of having a good work ethic. In addition, she allowed me to be a creative and opinionated child, encouraged me to use my critical thinking skills, and let me know Black is beautiful–being a Black woman is a superpower. My daughter, Blossom, has completely changed my life for the better. She has brought out my inner warrior spirit and I want her to have the best life possible. I’m demonstrating to her that being vulnerable and trekking through adversity conquers all! So huge, shoutout to my mama and my baby!
