Meet Diana Campos | Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Campos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Fatima’s Baklawa, our business specializing in Homemade Style Northern African Desserts, was a heartfelt journey driven by a deep appreciation for my husband’s culture and his family’s culinary traditions, particularly the treasured recipes learned directly from his grandmother. I became enamored with the exquisite taste, the dedication to high-quality ingredients, and the profound sense of shared love and culture that these desserts represented. Wanting to embrace entrepreneurship and gain control over my time, I embarked on this venture initially as a fun and personal endeavor. Over time, it organically evolved into a thriving and beautiful community where loyal clients return not just for the tasty treats but because they love sharing them with their loved ones, and that’s what it’s all about.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets “Fatima’s Baklawa” apart is our unwavering commitment to quality and tradition. We take immense pride in crafting our desserts using the finest ingredients and traditional family recipes passed down through generations, adapting them and creating new, exciting flavors with orange blossom, Nutella, or cookie butter.
We are a young business and have had an exciting and challenging journey to get to where we are today. It hasn’t necessarily been easy, but the challenges have presented opportunities for growth. We overcome obstacles by staying dedicated to our vision and continuously learning and adapting to the ever-changing business landscape.
The lessons we’ve learned along the way include the importance of perseverance and the value of building strong relationships with our customers. We’ve also learned that success is not just about the end result but about the journey itself and the joy of sharing it with others.
What we want the world to know about Fatima’s Baklawa is that we’re more than just a dessert business. Our brand represents the fusion of culture and cuisine, the power of family recipes, and the joy of sharing sweet moments with loved ones. We’re excited to continue serving our community and sharing our love for these delectable desserts for many years to come!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were in town for a week, I’d definitely want to show them around Culver City, where our business, Fatima’s Baklawa, is based. It’s a cool, family-friendly neighborhood with a lot to offer. We could start by checking out the local pop-ups we do around the area; you can always keep an eye on our social media for updates on where to find our desserts. While exploring, we could visit the Arts District or go for a bike ride or hike.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a big shoutout to my husband, Nazim. He’s been my rock throughout this journey, always pushing me to go beyond what I thought were my limits and giving me the confidence to start our family business. His love and support mean the world to me!
