Meet Diana Huynh | Cultural Curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Huynh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my resilience and my determination to tap into my will to find my ways. As a creative, we often come up with many “crazy ideas” that don’t seem attainable to the naked eye. Being able to think outside the box by knowing “why” I do things make the “whats” and “hows” less of reasons why NOT to pull it off.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Inspired by Issa Rae’s “Insecure”, I like to think of myself as a Culture Curator. I am an Event Director for a Sacramento Dispensary called Humble Root. I curate and host events and fundraisers in and outside of the cannabis community. My goal is to break stigmas and change stereotypes around cannabis through education and awareness. Whether it’s hosting a public table talk discussion with elected officials, or curating fundraisers for non-profits fighting for cannabis justice.
Watching my dad die from cancer, as he denied the “devils lettuce”, showed me the importance of raising awareness and educating our communities of the medical benefits of this plant. We can change lives of millions for generations to come.
It is NOT easy. Due to political barriers, we are forced through hurdles, however we will prevail. We are overcoming all challenges by choosing not to give up and continue to strengthen our community through advocacy and more. I’ve learned the power of togetherness, and working towards a common goal. I’ve watched magic happen, as like minded individuals come together and share their love for cannabis. Teaching each other and growing together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Sacramento, I would take my best friend to eat at all of my friends and families restaurants. Co Do, Wonder, LowBrau, Beast & Bounty, and more. We would hang out at private cannabis lounges and meet all the amazing trailblazers in our community. We’d check out all the historical landmarks and visit all the roof top bars with the best views!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my beloved late partner, Justin Phan, and my late father, Peter Tran. Thank you for loving and encouraging me as I navigated through my fair share of trauma and turbulence of life.
Justin, thank you for being my fourth grade play pal, my high school and my college sweetheart. You supported me through all of my phases as we grew through life. You believed in me, especially when I struggled to believe in myself. You showed me the beauty of Will Power through leading by example. I watched your nurturing kindness ripple so many lives, which inspired and encouraged me to do the same in my own way.
Dad, thank you for always doing your best with what you had. Thank you for sailing across the seas in hopes of a better life, and for giving that life to me. Your resilience will forever flow through my veins. Thank you for supporting me, even when it was hard for you to agree.
I am so grateful to have loved you both for the rest of your lives, and to carry your love and light with me for the rest of mine.
