We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego De Pietri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because it felt like a calling from a very young age—something I had to do, and for the most part, it was very enjoyable. It was never a planned decision or a thoughtful choice. Over time, it feels like I never really had a choice at all. I’m glad I followed my gut.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At the time of writing this, I’m about to release a new album titled Excuse Me. On this album, I included a version of a song I originally wrote when I was about 14 years old. My style remains the same, with intricate and metaphorical lyrics. One thing is certain: I have stayed true to my creative vision. In all of my personal artistic albums, I have never followed a commercial approach or suggestion. On the contrary, I like to go the other way around.

It was never easy to find success or gain quick approval, but it’s the only way I know how to do it—and I love that way, by the way.

Most of my songs are my own form of self-psychoanalysis. All paths lead home. However, due to my metaphorical writing style, the message can be interpreted in multiple ways—sometimes even the opposite of what I intended! 🙂

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best places in L.A.: The Baked Potato, Catalina Jazz Club, Vibrato Grill Jazz, Flappers, Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Concert Hall

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was in fifth grade at elementary school, a childhood friend of mine, Marcelo Ramos, brought over an LP vinyl he had taken from his older brother. The album was Adiós Sui Generis – Part I & II – Live at Luna Park Stadium, by one of the greatest Latin American rock artists, CHARLY GARCIA.

The music on that vinyl ignited a passion in me that has burned brightly ever since.

More than 45 years later, I still feel the same intensity and drive. His work inspired me to write hundreds of songs and release seventeen solo albums -and counting.

So, it’s true -a song can change a life or, at the very least, illuminate it!

Fast forward 20 years, I moved to L.A., and I was incredibly lucky to cross paths with a group of people who each helped me in a significant way. They are sound engineers Alfonso Calvo and Mauricio Guerrero, music producer KC Porter, music executive Luis Pisterman, and Tomas Cookman, along with many others who know who they are. Even though they didn’t know me well at the time, they helped me anyway. A small act of kindness can go a long way. Now, I try to pass that on.
