We had the good fortune of connecting with Dina Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dina, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
To take a major leap of faith and trust that I can make it in this industry even when others were telling me it’s impossible!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It has taken a very long time to get to where I am now and I’m still so far from where I want to be. I’ve learned that the life of an actor has so many starts and stops. So many ups and down. You just kind of have to be along for the ride. I have been lucky enough to work on some incredible projects and work alongside some amazing creatives. I’ve found pieces of myself in beautiful characters and have learned to trust the process. I’m currently in SAG and hoping to work on more fun projects this summer! My most exciting project to date was working on the last season of Shameless. That was an absolute dream come true for me and a full circle moment in a lot of ways. That was the project that got me into SAG and really made me feel like I had finally made it. The crazy thing is that it wasn’t a huge role but for me, it was everything! This career is made up of so many moments like that. Allow yourself to take in the small moments and really enjoy them because before you know it, the director calls cut and it’s all over in the blink of an eye.
The major lesson that I would want to pass on to others looking to pursue acting professionally is just to keep going. Keep pushing through the rejections, the long nights learning lines, the crazy call times. Push through it all because once you’re on set in front of the camera or on stage in front of that crowd, it’s all going to be worth it. Also don’t compare your career and journey to others. That will drive you crazy. Everyone’s journey is different and what is meant for you will always come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a rare LA native so I have places for everything! You want good Pho? We are hitting up Pho Daily in Gardena. Want a calm beach day with no tourists? Let’s go to Manhattan Beach and grab some sushi as Fusion while we are there. We can nerd out at the Star Wars themed bar in Hollywood or take a relaxing stroll through the Descanso Gardens. Hit me up for all of your fun LA recs 🙂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to all of my friends and loved ones who have supported me on my journey to stardom. I’m nowhere near my end goal yet but it’s been one heck of a ride! I would also love to shout out my wonderful boyfriend Christian who is always there to pick me up when things start to feel too heavy and reminds me that I can do this on a daily basis.
