We had the good fortune of connecting with Dindi Priadi and Jos Christopher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dindi Priadi and Jos Christopher, what is the most important factor behind your success?
One of the most important factors behind the success of our organization is definitely how well we set up our team to work together. When we first came into the role, we knew we wanted to build a team that are committed to each other and that share the same mindset and vision of serving our Indonesian community away from home.
Our first initiative that we felt was necessary was to have an internal trip to a cabin just outside of LA. We wanted to set up our team for success by creating a space where we could share stories, build chemistry, and enjoy our time with each other. This was a special trip for us as it served as a starting point and set the tone for the rest of the year.
With a close-knit team, we were able to execute various community events that brought people from different walks of life together. We had innovative strategies and initiatives that led to record breaking turnout in our organizations history. We partnered with numerous organizations to expand our reach where we focused on making a positive impact like providing a space for healthier habits, encouraging students to be active citizens and constantly celebrating and promoting the Indonesian culture that we are so proud to represent.
Our event list includes:
– Beach Gathering with over 250+ students
– A Southern Californian Sports Cup (Soccer, Basketball, and Badminton)
– Small community events like playing sports and exploring LA together
– Guest Speaker events focused on business and politics
– Indofest: A celebration of Indonesian culture through food and music
We always had each others backs, we made sure we were honest and that we had a collective understanding that constructive criticism was crucial for the growth of our organization. Continuous reflections were carried out throughout the year and we were able to identify our team members potential and guide them to fully utilize their strengths.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We both have always embraced our entrepreneurial side and it’s this mindset of not being afraid to take risks that has been instrumental in our success. From the start, we understood that progress comes with a certain degree of risk, and we weren’t afraid to step out of our comfort zone.
Dindi: I am a creative based in LA currently pursuing a degree in Communications and Film at UCLA. I knew I have always prioritized connecting and creating meaningful relationships with people and serving my community which PERMIAS LA was the perfect platform to channel this passion. Other initiatives include a music collective called SSPEL that connects people through our shared love of music and working in the professional womens sports industry, contributing to its growth. My experiences leading up to this prepared me to lead my community and take those calculated risks.
Jos: I took on the role of Vice President just as I was starting my graduate degree in Entrepreneurship. I knew that I wanted to apply all the theories of being a good entrepreneur to this organization and thankfully, alongside Dindi, we were able to achieve this successfully. This was also a very new experience for the both of us, especially me as someone who was rarely confident in stepping out of my comfort zone. PERMIAS LA has allowed me to grow not only individually as a person, but also as an entrepreneur.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Dindi:
– Baldwin Hill Hike
– Mavro Cafe in Venice
– Mulholland Dr
– Anajak Thai
Jos:
– Clutters Park (best for plane spotting)
– Melrose Trading Post
– Damo Matcha
Dindi and Jos:
– Sun nong dan
– Employees Only Speakeasy
– Runyon Canyon
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to extend a shout-out to our community, recognizing their invaluable contributions as a fundamental factor in our success. Without the support, trust, and active engagement of each community member, our achievements wouldn’t be possible. One of our main goals as an organization is to serve the community, and your active participation makes this mission achievable. In just one year, a relatively short time, we have successfully connected people and built meaningful relationships that we hope goes beyond their time here in Los Angeles. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey.
