We had the good fortune of connecting with Dirty Happz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dirty, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To many people, “Risk: is a decision you make when something may change drastically that would put them directly in harm or in a situation where they may have a loss. In my case I would say I was born into risk. Growing up in a broken home wit migrant parents in a low income community just pushed me to become numb to risk. Nevertheless after so many lossess or misfortune one can definetly develop wisdom and mitigate the odds even though the risk may be neccesary from time to time to get ahead in life,
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up in South Central Los Angeles in the 90’s was abit overwhelming especially if you were male. Being a young man would make you a perfect recruit to the local gang culture. The elements of Hip Hop created a different lane for many of us to others it didn’t. Rest in Peace to all my fallen soldiers. I personally gravitated to graffitti art and rapping. It was a time to escape my reality and to be free from all of the pressure that we are all expected to tolerate when still developing and maturing into young men. I am very proud to say that even though I was born to fail and to become a statistic I am now able to focus on my craft and send a possitive message to an audience that may need to hear what I’m saying and that hopefully they may get encouragement and or reflect towards making a better decision in life. I have overcame being shot at the age of 12 , stabbed at 16 , many street fights and gun shoot outs, a 7 year prison term and through it all I am now pursuing my Vision and Mission. From working in different places, reading and taking workshops and even you tube schooling i learned all about Branding , Social Media Marketing, Graphic Design , Web Design , Business Development , Music Record Labels, Distribution ,and much more. I even went to through a Certification course in UCLA Anderson School of Business to really increase my knowledge to be able to invest in my self and build my own brand the way the bigger companies do. As of now I am releasing my album in October 2024 called “Non Fiction”. It;s literally a musical autobiography of my life and things I went through. I feel that what sets me apart from others is the way I want to make a difference in a possitive way through my music and brand with out sounding too preachy. All of the pain and suffering that I have been through was not easy but I was numb to alot of it. What helped me push through was knowing my purpose in life… the moment that I learned what my why was I then understood everything. I now wanted to become an inspiration to others that had lost hope. I want to be able to be the reason my peers have NO EXCUSES in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Depending the season would determine the spoting event and venue. From Lakers game to Dodgers games and or Event in Nokia center to the Hollywood Bowl. L.A has a lot to offer for sure.
For sure I would pick a place near the ocean prefferably Santa Monica or Malibu. All time Favorite go to restaurants would be Pinks Hot Dogs, Dinos Famous Chicken, King Taco, El Baron Restaurant , and Carneys Burgers. For Hang out I would say Culver City , Downtown LA , Hollywood , Beverly Hills , Venice Veach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is a very difficult question to answer because everyone in my life has played a role in one way , form shape but I definetly would say for starters my Dad, “Tito” was and is a daily fire engne within my everyday. This is the one person that never gave up on me and never turned his back on me for right or wrong he taught me the true meaning of LOYALTY , FRIENDSHIP and LOVE. He was not perfect in many things but in these three he was to me. He raised me by himself playing the role of Father and Mother and wired me to become the man that I am today. Along my journey I would also have to give it up to the Hip Hop culture. Hip hop introduced me to so many people that shaped me and helped me stay productive with my creativity and placing my Big Brother King Sun into my life. I met King Sun in Beverly Hills through a mutual friend Seth, from 90210 Watches, and Mo Money Mike. From that point on I became really close to King Sun and also being part of the Iron Hand Clan. I learned what the essence of Hip Hop was in a real way.
