We had the good fortune of connecting with Divé Assad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Divé, what matters most to you?
Consistency. I have learned through the years that consistency and hard work beat talent. You have to be good at what your do, of course, but it’s the constant hustle that will keep you in the game and make you go from “good” to great.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I come from a very traditional conservative background. My mom is a doctor and my dad was an architect. In my world being an actor was not an option. I went to the best Economics college in Mexico City and always felt like I was cheating on myself. My professor helped me get an acting scholarship and I told my family I was doing it. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I always used to beat myself for being so empathetic and emotional. I learned to balance it out and channel it into art. I’ve had a successful commercial and print career and worked with wonderful actors in tv shows and movies. I’m always learning from my peers. Their process and their approach to both life and art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love bartending. I think it’s an art. I have a few favorites, but at the top of my list is Death&Co. The people who work there are on another level. I also like Bar Flores, Pinky’s Los Feliz and Caña. I’m plant based so I always enjoy The Grain Cafe and Little Pine. I do have to say that if I’m being naughty and going out of my diet, La Pergoletta in Los Feliz is fantastic. They make the best carbonara in town! I would also take them to watch a movie at Los Feliz Theater, a play at A Noise Within and to Zuma Beach!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Tao of Physics is book by physicist Fritjof Capra. It gave me the balance and peace I needed in my life to reach my full potential. John Cázale who was a brilliant actor and made me wanna do it. And my wonderful mom, Maria Sanchez, who worked really hard to raise me and my brother with all the love in the world and inspiration.
