Meet Divinity Gaines

We had the good fortune of connecting with Divinity Gaines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Divinity, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It came during a 48-hour silent meditation.”
It started as a whisper. One of those soft nudges you try to brush off until it gets too loud to ignore. I was a professional dancer for over 20 years. Movement was my language, my identity. I never imagined I’d trade in my dancing shoes for yoga mats, sound bowls, and healing circles. But that whisper kept tugging at me.
Yoga found me in 2018 originally just to ease my lower back pain. But it ended up unlocking parts of me I didn’t even know were waiting to be seen. And then… the world shifted. COVID hit. Life as I knew it paused. No performances. No distractions. Just me and the question, “Now what?”
So I listened. I traveled. I studied. I got certified. But I still hadn’t fully surrendered to the calling. Not until I took a sabbatical and stepped away from everything I thought I was supposed to be.
I sat with my past. With trauma I had tucked away. With pain I didn’t realize I was carrying. I grieved. I forgave. I released. I worked with Ayahuasca. I reconnected with my roots and honored the ancestors who came before me. That stillness cracked me open
And from that space of stillness, Divinity In Motion was born.
Starting Divinity In Motion wasn’t just about creating a business—it was about answering that call. It’s my sacred offering to the world: movement as medicine, transformation through breath, sound, sweat, and soul. This path chose me. I just had to be still enough to hear it

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work lives at the intersection of movement, healing, and purpose. I’m the founder of *Divinity In Motion*, a wellness brand rooted in helping people strengthen their bodies, calm their minds, and elevate their spirits. Through yoga, sound healing, dance fitness, Pilates, and mindfulness, I help people come home to themselves—especially those who’ve felt disconnected, burned out, or unseen.
What sets me apart is the soul I bring into every space. I don’t just teach classes. I create experiences that allow people to feel again. To breathe again. To let go. My background as a professional dancer for over 20 years taught me discipline and how to speak through movement. But it was my personal healing journey—through grief, trauma, and faith—that taught me how to *hold space* for real transformation.
I’m most proud of how authentic this journey has been. None of this was part of a perfect plan. I didn’t set out to be a wellness coach. It came through a series of quiet moments and divine interruptions. Can you imagine grieving your purpose while trying to find a new one? That’s where I was. After I lost my brother, everything shifted. I felt like I had to start all over again—this time with nothing but faith.
Was it easy? Not even close. There were moments of deep doubt, loneliness, and financial strain. Times I felt like I was losing myself. But I kept going. I leaned on therapy. I prayed. I traveled. I let go of who I thought I was supposed to be and made room for who I was becoming.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned? Your story is your superpower. The parts you’re scared to share—those are often the ones that will touch the most people. The healing, the heartbreak, the comebacks… that’s where the gold is.
So what do I want the world to know? That *Divinity In Motion* is more than a brand. It’s a movement. A return to self. A call to rise. It’s a safe space for people to move their bodies, connect to their breath, and remember who they are.
Because healing isn’t just possible. It’s powerful. And it starts with one simple question: Are you ready to come back home to yourself?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit, I’d take them on a full mind-body-soul tour of LA—the way I experience it. My version of “outside” isn’t just rooftop brunches It’s breath, nature, movement, and community. We’d start with grounding at Remedy Place, then head to the WalkGood Yard for yoga with real people, real purpose, and real healing. We’d hike or run around the Hollywood Reservoir, surf up at County Line in Malibu, and spend slow, intentional beach days with the Superbloom Collective.
There’d be sound baths, breathwork, cold plunges, and so many deep, sacred conversations under the sun and stars

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely. I would not be where I am today without the village that’s walked alongside me, prayed for me, taught me, and poured into me.
First and foremost, my brother Jamal “Mally” Gaines. His life, his energy, his legacy are with me every single day. Losing him shifted everything. It broke me, but it also cracked me wide open. I carry his spirit into every room I enter, every class I teach, and every piece of this mission I’ve built. The nonprofit I’m creating in his name is rooted in that same love—helping youth heal, rise, and remember their worth. His story fuels mine.
To my boyfriend @jhnsnbrwn thank you. For showing up in every way. For filming content, fixing mics, helping me troubleshoot tech, being my emotional support, and believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. You’ve held it all my dreams, my doubts, my breakdowns and I’m so grateful.
My family—thank you for being my foundation. For the prayers, the unconditional love, and the trust in this journey I’ve chosen even when it didn’t make sense at first.
WalkGoodLA—you already know. That community reignited something in me. To be surrounded by creators, healers, and changemakers with purpose and heart has been deeply affirming. Y’all remind me why this work matters.
To all of my teachers, mentors, and healers—thank you. You know who you are. Whether through movement, therapy, or soul work, you helped me unlock the parts of myself I didn’t even know I needed to heal. Your guidance helped me find my voice and my purpose.
And of course, Christ—my ultimate guide. Every pivot, every divine detour, every ounce of strength I’ve had to keep going has come from my faith. I’ve learned that when you let God lead, the path may not make sense, but it will always be aligned.
This journey is personal, but it’s never been walked alone. I’m here because of community, love, purpose, and grace. Always grace.
