Meet DMITRY BOCHAROV | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with DMITRY BOCHAROV and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DMITRY, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
A creative career was an interesting choice for me. After receiving master’s degree in computer science, I moved to photography. When I started as a photographer I started to develop skills to work with lighting. Spent nights in the studio learning every aspect of lighting and light modifiers. How continues light work together with strobes. Basically, it was technical knowledge first. And then a lot of practice.
Passion to learn new information and keeping up with new technology it’s one important aspect. Today I team up with CGI artists to work with automotive advertising.
Another great part is communication. When you meet a photographer who works with people, and he has long years of experience, you can be sure he is a great psychologist, who can find a way to work with you and keep you relaxed and involved in the shoot. During my short career time(around 15 years), I worked a lot with people and like to communicate and ask questions, make jokes and be easygoing to make my team and people around me happy with the final result. If it’s not your personal project, at the end of the day you need to see that your clients are happy.
Time management and organization.
We all have tons of archive work, and contracts, so this needs to be organized. Hopefully this days we have tons of software that can help with this.
Collaborations.
Today’s amount of work changed so much, You need to shoot more for less period of time. And you need a good team to work with. Assistants, DIGI techs, Retouchers, CGI artist, Art directors, Video editors etc. People who are better than you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hey There.
I’m a commercial photographer and director, represented by Elizabeth Poje+Associates, based in LA.
After 15 years of work, I can tell I have an amazing creative journey with photography which challenged me every time. Even today.
When I started I shot most of the time personal portfolios for people, it includes headshots, portraits, and lifestyle images of families. It was a great learning experience to work with people and find a way to make the process easy for everyone and nowadays I am always happy to hear after the shot how comfortable and relaxed was shoot.
I am always interested to listen to the client and what their goals are. For me, commercial photography is a collaborative process and as a professional, you try to offer client solutions and how to achieve them. It’s your knowledge and expertise.
The biggest professional challenge was to move to another country and start all over again. Fully update portfolio, find crew, find new clients. I love my work, I think that’s why I continue to push it every time. If you ask me what can I do if not photography/video, I need to think a long time.
Another challenge for me is to find your style and your voice. I am very happy for the people who found it, and if you can see the images and tell me who shot it. If you will check my website, you can find a wide variety of work, and I love it. There always be a way you can be hired for your style or for your expertise. Second works for me.
Lessons. Sometimes you need to take a break from creative work and relax.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
