Meet Doctor Savvy: Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Doctor Savvy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Doctor, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think the only way to get anywhere or anything is to take a risk. I took a risk on music, but honestly I consider anything out of my comfort zone a risk, so everyday is a risk it almost feels. But in my life, risks have taught me that you’ll never know unless you try, so why not try everything at least once. I’m learning to live by those words. It’s a long and hard process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love writing lyrics, and making a song come together. I use to play the trumpet when I was really young, even took advanced classes, but a lot of my musical inspiration comes from late 90’s early 2000’s hip-hop. In high school I never thought about rapping just loved the culture. But, after my boy Hoot started producing and recording at the crib he inspired me to do it too. I jumped right in and after 7 or 8 years now, and I’d say the pool is much deeper than it looks. I learned to record, mix, manage a team and just multiple things that go on behind the scenes as well. I wouldn’t trade any moment of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sheesh! If you’re with me In Carlsbad, you know you’re good. We probably eating free, Drinking free (if you want) and possibly hitting the beach if the weather’s good, which it usually is. I mean for breakfast, we probably hittin’ Don’s country kitchen, lunch we hittin’ Lola’s Deli, and for dinner we can find somewhere in the village there’s, too many good spots to choose from. State Beach is a must, maybe go to Carlsbad skate park have a little session at the old park? You know standard California things. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The group I am apart of The Upper Squadron or TUS for short. I consider everyone in this group family either a brother or sister, and would happily lay my life on the line for all of them. We have done every show together, we continue to push each other in not just music but in every aspect of life. I know for a fact I would not be anywhere near my dreams if it wasn’t for TUS and as old saying goes “If it ain’t TUS it’s SUS”.
