We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Higgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
To be remembered as someone who helped people create generational wealth through real estate. Real estate plays a huge part in building our own individual personal financial legacy, and I see my role each and every day as acting as a guide to help people unlock that power.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Yes! My journey as a real estate agent really began as a child. My mom was a real estate agent and broker, so as early as I can remember, I was looking at homes, visiting construction sites, and crunching numbers with her. When I was a sophomore in college I got my real estate license, and after graduating, returned home to work full-time for her boutique brokerage. We worked mostly with developers helping them to buy, build, and sell custom homes and apartment buildings all over LA.

However, over time, I learned how much I loved working with individuals to find their dream home. So in 2019 I got my broker’s license, and created Dominique Higgins Real Estate. My vision for the company was to completely revolutionize what it means to be a real estate agent. I wanted to take what is largely seen as a transactional business, and transform it into one based on building a lifetime partnership with clients. Working with clients over time to create their financial freedom through real estate.

It definitely was a rocky start, as it is with any new business. I was doing everything to market the business: hosting live events (this was pre-COVID), sending out mailers, cold-calling, you name it — and just kept hearing no after no after no. But, I just stuck with it, and soon those nos turned into yeses, and my business began to thrive.

Looking back, I would say that’s the biggest lesson I took away from the experience. To keep with it no matter what. To keep moving forward despite any obstacles you face. Because at the end of the day you never really know when that next person will say yes.

Flash forward to today, I’m extremely proud of where we are today. My clients love how incredibly responsive my team and I are. When they call, we pick up the first time. When they have questions, we find out the answers. When they see a home they love, we’re seeing it that day. It really lets them know that they are our number one priority, because they are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Well I would start in my hometown Pasadena! Old Town Pasadena is a foodie’s dream, so on our first day I would take them to each of my favorite spots including Great Maple, Frenchifornia, Popping Yolk Cafe, and True Food Kitchen. Once we had thoroughly stuffed ourselves, we’d rest for a bit, before going out later in the evening to the Upstairs at Ace Hotel in Downtown LA, one of my favorite rooftops.

The next day, I’d take us to Huntington Beach. I mean no visit to Southern California is complete without going to the beach. There we’d rent bikes and cruise up and down the boardwalk. Before setting up a spot on the sand, and running in and out of the water. After catching the sunset, we’d come home and grab dinner at Alexander’s Steakhouse, another personal favorite.

Day three, we’d visit all the must-see spots in LA: the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach Boardwalk. We’d drive up to Malibu for a modest hike to see the breathtaking views, before grabbing dinner at Malibu Farm and heading home.

The fourth day I’d dedicate to adventure. The child in me would whisk us to Universal Studios to enjoy all the rides and attractions for the day. Ending the night at Universal City Walk to see the live shows that take place there.

I love to dance, so on day 5, I’d take us to a workshop at Playground LA, where they bring in amazing choreographers from around the world. After coming home and getting ready, we’d head back to West Hollywood to check out the Abbey, one of my favorite clubs in the area, and experience all the nightlife the surrounding area has to offer.

Taking it easy the next day, we’d start off with one of my favorite waterfall hikes, Eaton Canyon, and then visit the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. On the way home, we’d grab In-N-Out just to make sure my friend enjoys this quintessential California experience.

Finally, on the last day, we’d rise early and head out to Palm Springs. After catching a ride on the Aerial Tram, we’d head back down and rent a couple of ATVs to go off-roading in the desert. Once the adrenaline has died down, we’d head home and grab a meal at Ruth’s Chris and I’d get ready to drop her off at the airport the next day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom definitely deserves recognition for all my success. She’s a real estate agent and broker, and has been for well over 30 years now, so growing up I was exposed very early on to real estate, and that’s where my love for the business first began to grow. Not only that she’s always instilled within me a disciplined work ethic to which I credit my achievements. Honestly, without her guidance and support I don’t know how the course of my career would have come out. I just remember this one moment, where on one of my first listings, I was running into problem after problem after problem, and feeling discouraged I called her. In like 5 minutes she snapped me out of it, and I was able to go on and successfully close the deal. So this Shoutout is dedicated to her.
