We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorsey Britton III and Christiaan Tahyar of Moose Mob Media; we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Guys, why did you pursue a creative career?
Dorsey: A combination of an overactive imagination and curiosity to discover something new artistically. From as far back as I can remember I’ve always had an interest in filmmaking and music. So choosing a career that was artistic and harnessed my creativity visually was a given for me. I love the thrill of trying to figure out new ways to tell stories. I’m also a bit obsessed with creation. The idea of creating something unseen or unheard of is exciting to me. I’ve also honed my technical and logistical skills to support that, but I know in the long run what drives me is the creativity of the work we do.

Christiaan: I’ve wanted to be involved in the film industry ever since I was a kid. Growing up I considered a few other options but in the end I always found myself gravitating back to a creative career. For me, stories are the base unit of human meaning, whether it’s for the individual or society. I’m endlessly fascinated by stories, what they say about us and how they inform our thoughts. That’s what drew me to this and what keeps me passionate.

What should our readers know about your business?
We started Moose Mob Media in late 2019 with two goals in mind. The first was to create a vehicle for our own stories, content and creation. The second was to also use that vehicle to help produce, collaborate and create content with others.

Honestly one of the things we are most proud of is the fact that we started our business right about when the pandemic started and we are still here. It wasn’t easy to keep it going, especially with the world falling down around us. It changed everything about how media is getting produced. Pivoting, while starting a business was a real challenge.

The two biggest lessons we took out of the past few years is persistence & optimism. They will get you places but you have to keep going! Things don’t always workout, learning from the failures and getting up afterwards is the key. In fact, if you start out and everything goes right, nothing goes wrong, it probably means you’re not really pushing yourself or the work. Nowadays we like to think about the process as either you get the win or you learn a lesson.

Keeping that in our minds and hearts is honestly what has allowed us to overcome the majority of challenges in our path.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, there’s so much to see in LA. If it’s your first time here there’s all the famous places to see like Griffith Park / Observatory, Sunset Blvd, Santa Monica pier. The big stuff. In general we tend to love the east side of LA though. We’d say you should definitely check out General Lee’s in LA’s Chinatown. It’s a great time. But we actually have different favorite spots in the city.

Dorsey: Silverlake is my favorite part of the city. Good food, good music and a good amount of friends live there. It’s perfect to scooter around and chill during the day. At night it’s a whole vibe. I always meet other great artists in those Silverlake streets. That part of town really reminds me of how dope and eclectic LA is.

Christiaan: My favorite neighborhood in the city is Alhambra. It’s laid back and has so much great food, especially Indonesian. You’ve got to eat at Borneo Kalimantan!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, so many people helped us. No one does anything alone. Friends, Colleagues and our Families all supported us. But here’s one person that if you took out, the story might be very different.

When we first started Moose Mob, one of our early collaborators that put a lot of faith in us was the rapper Luis Fernandez aka Luiego.

It was working on a music video with him, that convinced us to start the company in the first place. If he wasn’t there at the right time, there might not be a Moose Mob Media!
