Meet Dr. J. Casey Hobbs, OTD, OTR/L | Women’s Health Occupational Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. J. Casey Hobbs, OTD, OTR/L and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. J. Casey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Like many good things in life, the idea to start my own business came as a surprise. At my full-time job, I was asked if I would be interested in seeing patients in the women’s health department. This opportunity led me to take continuing education courses on the pelvic floor through Herman & Wallace, Institute for Sex, Intimacy, and Occupational Therapy, and I enrolled in the Sexuality Counseling and Sexuality Education certificate program at the University of Michigan. As I delved deeper into learning and talking with women in my life, it became clear to me I could become a voice in providing education to women.
Many of my friends have transitioned into motherhood, sharing with me all of their uncertainties about what to expect in their new role as a mother. I wanted to share my knowledge. With the encouragement of my friend Meredith, a mother of two and a fellow occupational therapist, I created my first class. “You are getting a New Roommate” it was created with the intention to build community and provide education to expecting mothers and their partners.
The more I learned, the more I wanted to expand my reach to support all women, not just expecting mothers. I decided to open a clinic in Culver City. Our clinic is accepting any patients with pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, chronic constipation, incontinence or menstrual pain.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would like the world to know my brand is Boundless Pelvic Wellness. I own a pelvic health clinic that provides quality care to women experiencing pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence, chronic constipation, or are in need of pelvic floor prep for labor and delivery. We value one-on-one care with a physical or occupational therapist that will provide holistic and client-centered care. What sets our clinic apart is our clinicians are not only trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation but also have advanced training and certifications in sexual health and wellness. It is vital to me to build a practice that respects my patients’ needs and provides client-centered care. I strive for each patient to feel seen and heard, with treatment plans that reflect their goals. I aim to create a culture with my employees that respects work-life balance and allows therapists to have autonomy.
I attribute my success to the support of friends, colleagues, and the women in my community. When I shared my idea for my class, “You Are Getting a New Roommate,” my friends responded with enthusiasm, helpful suggestions, and much-needed support with proofreading. I am incredibly lucky to have worked for a female surgeon with her own practice who has mentored me every step of the way. I am blessed to have a supportive community in Los Angeles to lean on and grow with.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Every visitor I have ever had visit Los Angeles I have to take them to Ojai!
There are so many must sees I love to share: hiking on Shelf Road trail over looking all the citrus groves, enjoying the hot springs at Ecotopia, shopping at the farmer’s market, the local tea shop Magic Hour tea and Bart’s books. I love to explore the town collecting the freshest citrus, enjoying an olive oil tasting at Ojai Olive Oil, and investing some much needed time on self-care at Meditation Mount at a sound bath. As a foodie, we have to indulge in the most delicious pastries at the Dutchess and relax in the evenings enjoying a glass of wine and fresh pasta at Nocciola.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family for their unwavering support on every adventure I embark on and my nieces Lucy, Molly, and Navy for constantly remind me of the joy in life and you never have enough sprinkles or glitter. I want to recognize the community I have built in Los Angeles, I have been so fortune to continuously be inspired by co-workers and colleagues that are finding their own way and the friends I have here that feel like home. I can never express enough gratitude.
