We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Josh Mazalian, DPT, OCS, CSCS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Josh, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Teach them (or try) skills. I believe self confidence and self esteem are built up through learning. If you believe you add value to the world, you will see the value in yourself.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe the reason where I am professionally is because what I do is very meaningful to me. I want to be great because I care. On the flip side, I can get down when I know I can do better and didn’t reach my potential at any specific moment through the day (which is quite tiring emotionally). I believe everyone (or maybe 99%) that walks in the door at JAM Sports has the potential to get better. It’s up to me to figure out how and I take that responsibility very seriously.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think the Griffith Observatory at night is a sight to see. One of the best ways to see LA in its glory. My favorite restaurant is Bramis Pizza (yes, I take pizza over a steakhouse). Haven’t been to a comedy club in a while, but LA has some great spots for a good laugh. Or you can do what every other Angelino does, take in a Dodger game and go hiking.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The book that changed me was actually a book called “Playing for Keeps”, a biography written about Michael Jordan. This came out way before the recent series “The Last Dance”. It changed the way I approached everything. It taught me to give everything my all and that sometimes you can go past where you think you would reach by changing your mentality. The person who I believe has given me that ability to change my mentality is my father. You have never seen someone who has so much energy to “get it done” as you would in my father. He does it all with a smile on his face and not a complaint in his body.
