We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. KayLa N. Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. KayLa, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Dear Mixed Girl, a valuable part of my business “Dr. KayLa N. Allen,” is a coaching program, a source of empowering messaging for girls and women of every age, a space for shared speaking from a stage and online, and a growing realm in which personal development in books, vlogs, and tiny reminders for all who have a multicultural background is spread. The social impact of Dear Mixed Girl is significant as many individuals of “mixed,” multiracial, and biracial races/ethnicities face challenges that are unique and oftentimes difficult. I have built something that is making a difference for individuals and families by using my experiences, education, and evidence- and research-based practices to help to equip others to transform their lives from the inside out. From what I know to be true, when you make a difference in small spaces, you make a difference in the world. Helping girls and their parents/caregivers and women of any age is powerful, and I could not be more grateful to use the power of and tools within high-quality coaching, my experiences, and meaningful lessons to serve this group of game changers, glass ceiling breakers, and queens of the present and future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

What sets the many facets of “Dear Mixed Girl” apart from other coaching programs and spaces of empowerment is the strategy, compassion, features of consistent, original, and personal letter writing, identity addressing and personal development methods, and messaging that is supported by a multitude of life experiences and education.

Creating the Dear Mixed Girl coaching program and the connected spaces was not necessarily easy, but it was definitely necessary. The challenges that I faced and occasionally still face professionally, I overcome with further education, reaching out to others for business connections, support and networking for clarity, brand building, addressing law concerns, etc.

“Dear Mixed Girl” has grown from a thought into all that it is today through a lot of continued efforts, an evolved vision, education, and beliefs in myself and all that is possible.

One of the most important things I have to do is recall that if I do not have the answer, there are countless sources of information at my fingertips if only I take the time to do the research, ask for help, and be a little patient with myself.

What I want the world to know about me is that I share and work with heart, realities, spirituality, and truth. When you work with me, you are committing to putting in the work to transform your life inside and out with the understanding that you have a purpose and a greater version of yourself waiting for you. If I can continue to challenge myself, even when it may seem impossible at the moment, I promise you can do the same in every aspect of your life.

Dear Mixed Girl is a place where you can be free to be yourself, tap into your truth, learn more about how to address the outside world, create your life and environment based on whom you know yourself to be, and transform your life from the inside out. Being “mixed” is not a limitation, and you can become anything that you envision with wise counsel, coaching from someone who understands your experiences and is well-educated, a good support system, a healthy environment, regular empowerment, and belief in yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hands down, if I were to go out to eat with a few friends, we would go to Kale My Name and absolutely anywhere that has a beautiful view, as my friends are always excited to have good food and a chill time away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Learning and growing in many capacities has been supported by my loved ones and dear friends, so I am very grateful for their contributions, love, prayers, and guidance along my path.
