We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Leslie Dobson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Leslie, what matters most to you?
Authenticity, transparency and consistent confidence are my main principles. After years working with criminals and very mentally ill individuals, I learned how to be myself. I learned how to be okay with myself and set boundaries with toxic people around me in my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From a young age, I was interested in psychology and the human mind, but largely the darkness that existed in the human mind. I was fascinated by murderers and people with severe mental illness. I spent years working with them, locked into the same facilities, getting to know them and assessing their violence risk potential. I eventually left to work on the outside in private practice, offering my forensic assessment knowledge of sexual offenders to attorneys in order to assess if someone was truthful in their claims of rape or if someone was saying they did not rape. I testify in court to my assessments a lot, and I also do therapy with people who have PTSD. I decided to bring my knowledge to social media and I have about 200,000 followers on TikTok and instagram in about 6 months. I’ve started a new journey and informing people of the dark world but through social media. My most viral topics have been protecting our children as parents and also how pedophiles use social media as child pornography and how mom influencers are aware and enabling this darkness.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just bought my dream home, so we’d probably stay home a lot in my serene yard and hot tub! I love nice restaurants and live music, like piano competitions. I would take my friend for walks on the beach, shopping, and to the hot spots of LA and Orange County that weren’t too crowded. Nobu in Malibu is incredible and the beaches are beautiful. Fashion Island in Newport Beach is beautiful to walk around. Balboa island is an adorable walk.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I thank the American Psychological Association for the high standard of training they demand in America. I thank my husband Wes Cook, for continued support, and Katie with magnolia roots media for helping me brand myself and spread my message.
