We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Mallory Feinberg-Hewitt, D.C., Dr. Jack Hewitt, D.C. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Mallory Feinberg-Hewitt, D.C., Dr. Jack Hewitt, D.C., how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Kinesis Chiropractic and Physical Medicine began somewhat spontaneously. After meeting in chiropractic college and practicing in separate offices for a couple years, we got married in 2012. Soon after, Jack left his job as an employee at a very busy practice in Orange County to be able to pursue a different approach to patient care. We joined together in practice in Los Alamitos and Kinesis was born.

Our vision for the practice was clear: we wanted to prioritize patient care, empower individuals in their recovery, and offer comprehensive assessments and treatments to help people eliminate pain and return to optimal physical function. We started small, renting a modest office space, and took on all tasks ourselves, from answering phones to marketing and treating patients. Our dedication to building our practice consumed much of our time and energy, but we were both equally committed. Being that we were in practice together, we never came across the problem of carving enough time out for each other. As the practice has grown, now with a bigger office and a team of 11 amazing Kinesis staff and therapists, it has only become more demanding of our time and energy.

In 2013, our daughter Charlie was born, followed by our son Nash in 2015. The arrival of our children prompted a reevaluation of our work-life balance. We quickly realized the importance of being fully present with our family. If we are being very honest, it is something that we continue to work on. We feel so incredibly lucky to be in a profession that we are deeply passionate about, but nothing matters more to us than our family.

We have always placed a great deal of importance on health, wellness and fitness. It’s not just what we do, but it really is who we are. We are passionate about understanding the human body, its movements, and exploring new approaches to healthcare and physical function. Even during our rare moments of downtime, we found ourselves engaged in active pursuits, like triathlons, backpacking, traveling, trail running, and surfing.

In a way, our family life and work life have grown to slightly overlap, creating a harmonious balance. Our children, now aged 8 and 10, often visit us at the office and roam around in search of cookies and treats that are often given to us by our amazing patients. During our free time, we all go in search of adventure as a family, whether it’s backpacking across Catalina island, exploring the narrows at Zion National Park or just doing short Crossfit workouts in our home gym. We understand that this balance will require ongoing adjustments to meet the needs of our children, our patients, and ourselves. Despite the challenges, we feel fulfilled in both aspects of our lives.

What should our readers know about your business?
The KiNESiS objective is to relieve pain, facilitate a quick recovery, and teach movement patterns that prevent future injury. We believe strongly in an individualized treatment model, as it allows us to personally monitor the patient’s progress. Working closely with other physicians and health care providers allows us to establish a well-rounded treatment program focused on enhancing quality of life.

While we were both initially on the sport medicine path, Dr. Jack continued down that path, specializing in biomechanics and functional movement. He enjoys working with athletes of all levels, helping them to identify the missing links that will propel them to the next level, or simply resolve a long standing issue that interferes with their sport or training. Although I enjoy treating patients of all ages and fitness levels, my focus shifted to prenatal and pediatric chiropractic in the last 7 years. Using the webster technique along with other approaches, my goal is to help women to have a pain free pregnancy and reduced labor and delivery time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is a reason Long Beach, CA is touted as the “Aquatic Capitol of America”, we are literally surrounded by water. So, when we have friends coming to town, one of our favorite things to do of course is to head to the ocean. During the day I suggest hitting up one of our many beaches that dot the coast line all the way deep into Orange county and the many great surf spots along the way… we definitely have our secret spots. As the sun starts to set, there is nothing better than cruising down the canals in Naples on an electric duffy boat and enjoying your favorite bottle of wine and charcuterie. Depending on your mood, you can always dock at Ballast Point Brewery for an IPA or putt over to the other side of the bay to enjoy a nice meal at Tantalum Restaurant. Also, the variety of restaurants and bars down 2nd street is endless if you choose to keep the night going. However, I’m afraid our nights out on the town end much earlier now than they used to.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
