We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Muzaffar Shah-Khan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Dr. Shah-Khan, its great to have you back with us. Our audience really enjoyed your last feature with us, so I had to reach out to you again, how are you?
I am doing well Chris, thank you for reaching out to me. Collectively everyone enjoyed our previous interview, you all did a great job.
What should our readers know about your work and your show IKHANTALKS?
With IKHANTALKS by DR. SHAH-KHAN, you will always be entertained. Regardless of the topic discussed, people I interview or help, there is always an element of style and humor. That is how I have always been, and I always bring that to my content. I am very serious about my clinical work, especially when discussing procedures or doing surgery on my patients, but I still like to have a good time.
As patients come for consultations with me and can sometimes be anxious or in excruciating pain, I try to remain positive – not only for them but for me and my staff.
I have to be honest with the readers Chris, because my audience means the world to me. With the current barbaric inhumanity happening since October 2023 and the current state of the world, it has been a really difficult time. I have shifted in my thoughts, my beliefs, and certainly my content. What I feel inside shows everywhere. While my nature is to be light hearted and warm, I feel tremendous sadness and pain for the people that died, and are suffering.
I have been extremely blessed in my life in many respects, but I care about humanity most. Bella Hadid, Dave Chapelle, Dua Lipa, Angelina Jolie, Kanye West, Kyrie Irving, Marc Lamont Hill, Zayn Malik, and myself, we share a similar sentiment. I appreciate them using their platforms for good, and for standing up for what is right. I look forward to connecting with them on IKHANTALKS. Let’s make that happen asap!
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always been an entrepreneur at heart. You know, slangin candy on the playground vibes. I always think to myself “how can I do this business myself? How can I do this better?” Not in an envious way, but I genuinely want to do things on my own – whether it is real estate, building my dental & oral surgery practice, construction, or my comedy talkshow, IKHANTALKS. I do not mind hard work, not knowing much and figuring it out, struggling, and then reaping the reward. I always tell people “be careful of the shiny things and glossy image, because nothing for me comes easy.” You may see someone with impeccable style, driving a beautiful rolls Royce, and living in a mansion, but you don’t know what is behind all of that, and the struggle it took to get there…unless they won the lottery I guess.
Entrepreneurship is not for everyone, but I can handle it. The best part of having my own business is setting my expectations and seeing them come to life. It doesn’t always happen – trust me, I have many plans that fail. But that’s okay, failure is painful and costly, but you always learn, and you learn to do things better. When things do workout and you see it happen, you cannot put a dollar amount on that feeling, or maybe you can, hah, what do you think?
What should our readers know about your work?
Everything I do is authentic, entertaining, and absolutely me. I am always going to be for humanity, and stand up for what is right. I have marched to the beat of my own drum for most of my life. I find charm in things considered strange, and likeness to style considered obscure, at times on an island alone with my thoughts, and my dreams.
I will ALWAYS support the oppressed and occupied. As a Doctor it is my duty to help people and ease them of their pain. I will always stand up for what I believe in, and will never stray from that path.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! I am between LA and Chicago. Chicago has great shopping and has an abundance of diverse food options! In LA, I stay in Beverly Hills, and usually grinding for IKHANTALKS, but going to the Beverly Hills fountain and Griffith observatory for photos is fun, breakfast at the Beverly Hills Hotel – it’s iconic, especially to the son of Muslim immigrants from India, midwestern guy like me…driving to the entrance, trees on either side, the pink exterior of the hotel, it is a vibe, and so much Hollywood history. When you’re there you feel part of it, you know?
The people that work there are nice – the guys at valet, staff in the restaurant, they’re always really friendly. I have gone after filming on occasion, just lowkey in trackpants and a windbreaker (but in Dr. Shah-Khan drip of course) and servers will chat with me, ask me what Im upto, etc. I remember one time I ordered an appetizer and soda, and the server did not charge me at all. I was like “whaaat? No dude why? It’s your job.” He insisted so I did not want to insult him, so I left him a nice tip. But yeah, they’re cool.
Craig’s. I wandered in there randomly one night, not an exotic/diverse menu, simple American, but good. I would also go to Urth Café in Hollywood for iced coffee…I love iced coffee. Pro tip from a Dentist, drink with a straw and it will not stain your teeth. You’re welcome.
Runyon Canyon – I love nature and being outdoors. I am constantly talking to people, running my businesses, always on my phone, filming, etc to so I need to disconnect at times and appreciate quiet time. The trail is not easy but the views are great and guests appreciate proximity to the Hollywood sign. It’s also good for people watching. They’re in good shape but usually a sweaty mess, but if that’s what you’re into more power to you.
The beach, Santa Monica or Venice. There are too many good options, but visit at least one!
People seem to really like you in LA, Dr. Shah-Khan. You’re handsome, talented, a successful Doctor, budding comedy talk show host, you really have it all.
You’re very kind, thank you. People have been nice to me in LA so far, lets knock on wood (knuckles to skull) to keep it that way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out anyone standing up and speaking out against injustice and barbaric inhumanity i.e. Amanda Seales, Dua Lipa, Bassem Youssef, Bella Hadid. I appreciate you, they appreciate you, keep doing what you are doing. We see you.
