We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Robby Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Robby, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I moved to Los Angeles about a decade ago, I wasn’t just looking for a house—I was searching for a “view with a house.” I envisioned a space where I could bring my art to life on a larger scale, something beyond the limits of a traditional gallery. Eventually, I found a property on two large lots in the Hollywood Hills, near the sign, and it became the birthplace of the Hollywood Sculpture Garden. The move was massive—it took 24 truckloads to transport my collection of stones, sculptures, and paintings from Irvine. It took more than a month with deliveries, day after day. But once here, the land began to speak to me. I started placing sculptures around the property, and slowly, other artists reached out wanting to contribute. What began as a personal creative sanctuary evolved into a collaborative, ever-growing gallery and public art experience.

My art is not confined to canvas or sculpture—it’s an evolving, immersive experience that reflects my life, my surroundings, and my deepest emotions. What sets my work apart is that I live it. I don’t just create art—I breathe it, build it, walk through it. The Hollywood Sculpture Garden a space of collaboration, healing, and emotional connection, open to the public yet deeply personal.

Nothing about this journey was easy. It took courage, persistence, and risk—emotionally, financially, and artistically. I’ve learned to trust the unknown. Some of my best work has come from letting go of expectations and allowing the process to lead me somewhere unexpected. I don’t chase trends or try to fit into molds. I chase authenticity. That’s been the key to everything.

Art, to me, is a conversation between my soul and the world. It’s how I process being a father, a grandfather, a human. My grandchildren’s laughter becomes bright colors; their cries, darker hues. Every milestone in their lives echoes in my creations. I hope I’m showing them—and everyone—that it’s possible to live with passion, purpose, and meaning.

What I want the world to know is this: creation is not separate from life. My home is a gallery. My garden is a gallery. My life is a gallery. The goal has never been fame or perfection, but connection. I want people to walk through my spaces, see my work, and feel something. Because when you feel something deeply, you start to see yourself—and the world—a little differently. That’s the true power of art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As an artist, I would recommend to visit the main museum in LA. Being a board member of the Craft Contemporary, I would take them here and then to the LACMA museum across the street.

I also love the museums and attractions in downtown, like the Broad, MOCA, and the Disney Hall. While being downtown, we could eat at Bestia. It is one of my favorite restaurants.

We could also go to Venice Beach, walk all the way to the Santa Monica beach, and have dinner in Abbott Kinney at Gjelina.

The other two best restaurants I would recommend are Providence and Vespertin in Culver City.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my grandchildren, their parents, my family, all the museums and galleries I am involved with, especially the Craft Contemporary Museum, as I am a board member and trustee.
