Meet Dr. Sara Chaudhry | Psychologist & EMDR Psychotherapist & Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sara Chaudhry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Sara, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Becoming a psychotherapist was not on my long list of careers I wanted to pursue. I thought I would be a lawyer. After finishing my first year of law school, I started a summer internship, excited to dive into the legal world. But I quickly realized something was off. While I loved studying law, the actual work was miserable, and everyone around me was miserable. I knew I wanted to be happy, not miserable and hating my work. I had two major issues: find new career and tell my family I was dropping out of law school.
It led me to seek therapy, which was not easy! I went through a few therapists before finding the right one, and she changed my life. She met me where I was and heard my individual needs. She encouraged me to explore the field—not as a career, but just to invest in getting to know myself. But I fell in love the career, how the brain works, and how the right therapy modality can change a person’s life. I was unaware that anything outside of traditional talk-therapy existed.
Starting my own practice, Telechats Therapy, was inspired by my personal struggles to find a therapist who truly met me where I was, without pushing their own agenda. I wanted to create a space where the person is seen and heard, no matter their beliefs or background. In my practice, it’s all about meeting people where they are and giving them a safe, supportive environment. My goal is simple: to help people live a happier life, no matter what they have been through.

What should our readers know about your business?
Telechats Therapy’s main purpose from inception was to create a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported—no matter their story, background, or beliefs. The objective is not to offer a one-size-fits-all approach or believe we know it all, but continue to learn, to keep up with new research and learn new modalities.
The moment that stands out the most is during my internship years when a client told me I was the first therapist in his 11 years with different therapists that he felt comfortable disclosing his darkest secrets to, and the monsters he kept running from. It was a moment I knew I was on the right path to becoming the kind of therapist clients felt they could be honest with and fear no judgment.
My goal is to continue building a practice where I would want to go to seek therapy—a place where therapists are always keeping up with the latest research and studies. My practice is not about providing a quick fix but about getting to the root issue and healing it, so you never have to struggle with it again—because it is possible! Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, or struggles with self-esteem, we can heal it all because I believe you are good enough, you are lovable and you are worthy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have an entire list of hidden gems in Southern California, from the best coffee shops to hands-down the best tacos this side of the border. We’d start the day with breakfast burritos and coffee at a local spot, then head to the beach. Watching street performers at Venice Beach is a must along with rooftop drinks in Beverly Hills, soaking in the city lights.
I would take my friend to experience the magic of Malibu with a surf lesson, ending the day with delicious sushi and incredible ocean views. We also we experience SoCal’s version of hiking—“hiking with coffee,” with endless breathtaking views and plenty of photo ops.
Id definitely take my friend on So.Cals version of hiking, where its “hiking with a coffee, and endless beautiful views. It would also include a visit to the Joshua tree or the mountains, depending on the season. After showing my friend, all the reasons Southern California is heaven on earth, I’d let them sit in LA traffic—because no visit is complete without it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to all the amazing professors and mentors who helped me get to where I am today. I’m grateful to every client who shared their story with me and trusted me when I said, ‘Yes, we can change your life and help you live a happier life.”
