We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Victoria Clement, PT, DPT and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Victoria, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Pelvic health is a growing field, however, people have no idea that they can get help for “taboo” topics like leaking, diarrhea, continuation, painful intercourse, pelvic heaviness, etc. You do not have to wear a depends or have a mop and bucket nearby when you lift heavy. Pelvic floor therapists can help you get your life back and crush these insecurities!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career started in orthopedics where I treated conditions such as shoulder replacements, ACL tears, and ankle sprains with little knowledge of the pelvic health world. It was not until I ended up in the emergency room with pelvic pain after years of untreated symptoms and no direction that I discovered pelvic floor physical therapy. Once I finished my treatment and diminished all of those symptoms I had been struggling with for over a decade, I HAD to start offering this to people. There were so many restrictions due to productivity standards and lack of insurance reimbursement where I was working and that led me to create my own mobile business to give people the space to talk and heal with one on one care without barriers. I realized that we can not only make a difference in people’s lives that are suffering with bowel and bladder issues, painful intercourse, chronic pain, pelvic heaviness etc but also help people prevent perinatal pain and birth injury. I wanted to truly cater to the perinatal population, which led to getting my doula certification and support people in the birthing space. I am proud of my growth personally and professionally and want to keep giving my Philadelphia community the support and resources they desperately need and deserve!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely go hiking at Wissahickon Park and stop for a beer and gourmet burger at Lucky’s Last Chance! Also, I would introduce my friend to the incredibly empowering world of Strongman/Strongwoman workouts at Fire for Effect Athletics and stop by C&C Creamery for the best ice cream in Philly!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My business would not exist if it were not for one of my best friends, Courtney Smiach, encouraging me to get help for my own decade of pelvic health issues. She has been an ally from the beginning and as we both grow our practices!
