We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Louis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is truly a balancing act, especially in the music industry. Growing up, we’re allocated time for our creative outlet. Once that creative outlet becomes your career, it gets immediately more difficult. As a pop singer, songwriter, and producer, I’m firing on all cylinders, like, all the time haha. As I get more invested into my artist career, it’s an everyday evaluation of checking in with myself, and allowing myself to do what I want. (Obviously easier said than done when bills have to be paid). Another main habit I’ve gotten into is setting work hours. Since the music industry literally never operates on a 9-5, I frequently have to get creative. Overall, checking in with your mental health is key. It’s easy to work too much when you love what you do!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a pop singer, songwriter, and producer. So while pursuing my own artist career, I’m also writing and producing for other artists! My most recent cut is with Sony Japan’s The Gospellers, on their single “Loving Out Loud”. I’m known for heavy-as-hell harmony layering, and slick bass lines. (Or at least I like to think so!). In terms of what sets me apart, I think I have an interesting angle being a kid from the middle of Ohio, who just so happens to be gay. Growing up in that environment made me develop a thick skin, and taught me how to stick to my guns, no matter what. Just two years ago, I graduated high school and moved out to LA to pursue a career in the music industry, and I can confidently say today that I have a career in music. My new single “PETTY” came out on March 28th, I wrote that one with the incredible Francis Karel, Carlee Chappell, and Jayelle Gerber.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Every morning we can hit one of my favorite local coffee spots! Antigua Coffee House, Civil Coffee, and Have Some Coffee just to name a few. If we’re feeling like some breakfast, let’s head on over to Homestate for some booooomb tacos! Definitely need to hit up Old Town Pasadena to do some shopping, and then get some Nine & Nine Thai Food for lunch. For the afternoon let’s head over to Venice Beach and stroll around, relax on the beach. For dinner let’s get more tacos over at Blue Plate Taco in Santa Monica. To cap off the night, let’s take the hike down to Anaheim and watch the Disneyland fireworks from the rooftop bar, The Fifth. This day sounds perfect, but sadly I’m already tired thinking about all the traffic. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out the incredible Kasia Livingston! She truly has become a songwriting mom to me, and has guided me throughout the industry thus far with her expansive knowledge and incredible stories. I owe a lot of where I am now for her guidance and helping hand.
