We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Tillman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Drew, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After being laid off from my corporate job at the end of 2023, I immediately saw it as an opportunity to dive into content creation full-time. I’ve been passionate about making videos showcasing things to do in LA, and this transition allowed me to focus on that entirely. My motivation stems from a deep desire to highlight the beauty in the world around us and inspire others to see and appreciate it too. I believe that by showing people how vibrant and fascinating our surroundings can be, I can encourage them to step out and experience these wonders for themselves.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve spent over a decade in the corporate world at leading digital publishers like HuffPost, The Atlantic, and BDG, specializing in branded content. My role involved ideating and producing content—including written articles, photoshoots, and videos—that helped brands tell their stories to our audiences in engaging ways. I also worked extensively in events, helping brands represent themselves through creative experiential activations. Now, as a solo content creator, I get to apply all of these creative and strategic skills to help brands tell their story to my personal audience on social platforms.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite question! I would start by organizing each day around one neighborhood so you can explore by walking and avoid traffic. Here’s what I would suggest:
Day 1 – West Hollywood – start with coffee at Community Goods and try the hojicha latte, visit Remedy Place for cutting-edge wellness treatments like cryo therapy, have lunch at the gorgeous Arden Restaurant, visit the famous Greystone Mansion, and finish with dinner at Ysabel
Day 2 – Westwood – The Getty Museum, then head to Westwood, grab a beer at Broxton Brewery, meditate at The Breathing Room, stroll through Mathias Botanical Garden, have dinner at Violet Bistro
Day 3 – Venice – breakfast burrito at Society Kitchen, walk through the Venice Canals, visit Anima Mundi apothecary, pottery class at Still Life Studios, sunset on the beach, dinner at Fia, and then try cava at Kavahana
Day 4 – DTLA – coffee at Aquarela, see art at The Broad, stroll through the Blue Ribbon Garden above the Disney Concert Hall, see the architectural landmark the Bradbury Building, grab a bite at Grand Central Market, ride Angel’s Flight, visit the historic Biltmore hotel, finish with dinner and drinks at Level 8
Day 5 – Arts District DTLA – start with coffee at rykn, get tacos at Ditroit Taqueria, visit Hauser & Wirth for a free art gallery, try a wine flight at Pali Wine Co, have dinner on the rooftop of La Cha Cha Cha
Day 6 – Beverly Hills – start with lunch at Crustacean, walk through Beverly Gardens park, sunset dinner at the Rooftop by JG, dessert at Cassetta
Day 7 – Topanga Canyon & Malibu – Cafe 27 or Inn of the Seventh Ray, visit the Getty Villa, see sunset on the beach in Malibu, then dinner at Mastro’s Ocean Club
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my boyfriend, Matthew Frias. He’s been my favorite adventure companion since the very beginning of this journey. I call him my “manager” because he’s always there to offer advice and advocate for what’s best for me. As a content creator himself, he’s helped me film, make editing decisions, and even share insights on content strategy. His support means the world to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to have him by my side.
