We had the good fortune of connecting with DYSON and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DYSON, how do you think about risk?
Risk is the foundation of my career. I’ve been taking risks since I was 17. I left home to move to London with no money and no music industry contacts , but I always had this drive and felt that the risk would be worth the reward and that I’d just work it out. Risk is not the easy choice it’s scary and of course there’s always the chance that things don’t work as you had planned or hoped. However I’m a believer in things working out as they’re supposed to, and even when things didn’t go to plan for me I knew I was still one step closer to my goals. Taking risks makes me feel alive, I thrive on it. It makes me more focused and determined to make it work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is who I am, every song I write is a part of my story. I want to share my pain, struggles, happiness whatever it might be with people as I know that these are universal emotions and if I can help at least one person through a time in their life it gives me purpose to keep creating. Music was my therapy through life both listening and creating so I want to spend the rest of my life making it. My journey has been long and stressful. I’ve encountered many setbacks both financially and business wise, and I’ve made some bad business decisions, the music industry is full of people over promising and under delivering so I definitely learnt the hard way. What I want other artists out there to know though is, no matter how big you feel the set back is or how impossible it might seem you can get through it. Keep a close circle of people you trust around you and stay focused on yourself and why you’re doing this in the first place. I want to be an example that no matter what you encounter, you can still get the career you deserve and want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok I’d say let’s start with Santa Monica pier, let’s grab a fun lunch, play games and go on all the rides. Then I’d say let’s drive up to Malibu to watch the sunset. Then I’d say let’s Bottomless mimosa brunch in West Hollywood and talk the day away. Next let’s go downtown to Santee alley and go shopping, I love fashion and I love to explore all the new fashions they have. The Walt Disney concert hall is incredible, we can take in a show and head to perch rooftop bar for an after show drink. Then to top off the week a hike to Griffith Park to the observatory and watch the sun set over the incredible city of Los Angeles, on a clear day you can see the ocean and it’s amazing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I absolutely have to shout out my parents, from the moment I was born I had their support to pursue whatever I wanted. They helped me to believe I could truly be whatever I wanted. Even though we had no money they worked so hard to provide me dance lessons, music lessons, they told me there was nothing I couldn’t achieve.
