Meet E.m. | Fine Art Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with E.m. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi E.M., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk-taking is an integral part of both personal growth and professional development. When I think about risk, I view it as a balance between opportunity and uncertainty. Risks can often lead to new experiences, innovation, and unexpected rewards, but they can also come with challenges or setbacks.
I am definitely a risk taker, but only when my gut feeling gives me the green light. I do believe that if your inner compass navigates you towards your dream or happiness, then you should definitely make the leap and go for it. It can be very scary and it takes a lot of courage, but the more you do it, the more confidence you’ll gain for next time. There is no failure, only lessons to be learned.
I moved from Czechia to the U.K., and later to Los Angeles, I changed careers and started from zero over and over, I tried all kinds of different things, and I have finally found my true happiness as a full-time artist.
I feel like my life is filled with risk-taking moments, and I have no regrets, because all the experiences made me who I am today. I am living a happy life doing what I love.
Risk has the potential to push boundaries, encourage creativity, and open up paths that would otherwise be missed. Stepping outside one’s comfort zone, trying something new or unconventional, or making a big change even if success isn’t guaranteed.
As an artist, I work alone a lot and from time to time my mind plays self-doubts games with me, or I catch myself thinking that maybe I should play it safe, and create something that I know people will like and buy for sure. Luckily, I can acknowledge this, and talk myself out of it haha.
It’s important for an artist to push boundaries, and to be open to take on a challenge, to get out of their comfort zone. Those are the exciting moments of growth and creating something wonderful.
With every new artwork, I learn something new about art and about myself. It’s magical and I highly recommend it to everyone! 🙂

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a self-taught Czech-American painter, muralist, illustrator, and poet based in Los Angeles, CA. I am one of the creatives at E.M. Studio L.A., an art and design studio based in L.A.
If you look at my body of work, you will find anything from abstract paintings to hyper-realism. I don’t specialize in one genre. I like to paint when I feel inspired, which could be a feeling, an image, or a vision in my mind.
I do accept commissions, so I am very much open to the idea of collaborating with my clients. I actually love it as much as creating freely. I love meeting with my clients and listening to their stories, and their visions. It feels pretty amazing to be part of someone else’s story, and to be trusted to bring their visions or even memories to life. One of my clients cried (happy tears haha) when she saw my version of her childhood memory as a permanent original artwork for her home. That for me, as an artist, is the ultimate reward. I don’t think it gets any better than that!
I also love to write poetry when inspired. Sometimes my art inspires me, and so some of my artwork comes with a poem.
When it comes to my art, I always encourage my audience and art collectors to interpret my art any way THEY like, but I also like to share my inspiration stories and my thought process. And therefore, I have included some of my thought process on my website. When you visit, you can read some of the captions next to my artwork.
I share a lot more, including my poetry with the members of The Art Lovers Club. Anyone can sign up (it’s free!), and follow me on my creative journey. I have a really hard time with social media, but I love writing my letters twice a month. The Art Lovers Club is the most intimate way I share insider looks into my process, inspiration, and my overall creative journey. I hope to see you there!
I am a self-taught painter. I have always been very creative, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I tried to paint, and fell madly in love with this art form. With every artwork, I learn something new, and get better. I am not afraid to try new things, and take on a challenge, which I think is very important for any artist. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, because my decision to become a full-time artist happened organically and without any heartbreaks or major setbacks. I was inspired by a photo I took on one of my walks in Barcelona, and created an oil painting that I posted on social media. It was probably less than 24 hours later, when a local art collector reached out to me to let me know how much he loved the piece, and that he would like to buy it! And that’s when I knew, and when I made a conscious decision, that I am an artist, and that that’s what I want to do for the rest of my life. From there, I sold almost everything I made and that gave me the extra boost and confidence that this is the path I need to be on.
My goal is to bring joy into your life, to make you smile, and brighten up your day with my colorful art!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t drink, and I don’t really go out to eat because I’m very conscious about my food choices. I am most certainly an art and nature lover though. I love to walk on the beach, go out dancing, or visit galleries like LACMA, The Getty, The Hammer Museum, or The Broad. Los Angeles also offers a lot of different art pop up events or art crawls that I either like to visit or be part of to showcase my artwork.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am most certainly thankful for my upbringing, and for the love and support of my parents in the early stages of my life that have molded me into the strong individual I am. And of course shoutout to my amazing husband for his unconditional love, support, and understanding, especially when I decided to follow the path of becoming a full-time artist!
