We had the good fortune of connecting with Earth To Emily and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi EARTH TO EMILY, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My mantra in creating music is “Make good music, be a good person.” For me, that always grounds me in what my objective and big picture is when I feel overwhelmed in this industry. If I succeed in that, I’ve already won.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m EARTH TO EMILY, a popstar from Toronto who creates concepts and worlds through my music. I’m passionate about collaboration and pushing culture. I just released my EP “SOCIALITE RODEO” and my latest single, “SINGLE*” which is available everywhere now.
Right now, I’m obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter’s new album, Chappell Roan, Ryan Beatty, and Omar Apollo. A through line for me, is how consistent these artists are in creating a creative world to invite listeners into.
I’m writing my next project currently – it’s been really fun. Challenging in ways, but also being in the experimentation phase, it can be exciting. You can’t force creativity – instead live in a creative abundant state. Cultivating your life around you to serve your creativity, so it’s always there. I try to stay as aware as possible, especially for song concepts, in conversations and tv shows.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the east side of LA! For brunch, I’d go to Spoke in Frogtown and get the vegan breakfast burrito. Then, flea markets in Silverlake or Echo Park. After a mid day nap, I’d meet up with friends at 4100 or at my friends apartment to do karaoke!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my community and collaborators. When you are an independent solo artist, there is so much that goes on behind the curtain. Finding a good team, who’s supportive and in it because they genuinely love the music is the most important. I’m so grateful for everyone I make music with and who has helped me along the way. Community is culture.
