We had the good fortune of connecting with Edi Roque and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Edi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a cinematographer, I have always been passionate about creating visual stories. I love the process of working with a team (or, sometimes, by myself) to bring a vision to life, and I am always looking for new ways to tell stories in an interesting way.

When I started my own business, I wanted to have the freedom to create the work that I wanted to create. I wanted to work with people who shared my passion for storytelling, and I wanted to be able to control the creative process from start to finish.

Starting my own production company has been a lot of hard work, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects, and I have met some incredible people along the way. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a cinematographer, and I am excited to see what the future holds for my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a cinematographer, I want the world to know that I am passionate about telling stories through the use of light and shadow. I believe that cinematography is a powerful tool that can be used to create images that are both beautiful and thought-provoking.

I am also committed to using my skills as a cinematographer to tell stories that are diverse and inclusive. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and I want to use my work to help amplify the voices of those who are often marginalized.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As an introvert (and a good chef) I’m always pleased with the opportunity of cooking for friends and family, that’s my way of showing appreciation and care for them. There are many great restaurants here in LA but I realized that, in my routine, I’m usually eating out when I’m running errands and I’m hungry, it’s very rare that I plan to go out for dinner as I really enjoy cooking.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can’t praise enough all the great directors that, in my opinion, wrote the “cinema book”. From the early influences such as Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock and Akira Kurosawa to the more “contemporary” guys such as David Linch, John Carpenter, Stanley Kubrick and even Christopher Nolan.

However my biggest influence and inspiration is Lars von Trier because of his unique storytelling, visuals and for constantly teasing and exposing the general hypocrisy rooted within the entertainment industry.
