We had the good fortune of connecting with Edoardo Gastaldi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edoardo, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since the very first years of my life, I always felt the need of inputs to create things, and ultimately to see progress in what I was doing. If at a certain age people would have asked me “What’s a thing you like?”, I would have – most likely – answered: “I’m a curious person, up to the point that I can find interest in anything”.
Collecting moments, perspectives, situations, disappointments and achievements led me to the urgent need of an expressive form through which process and release the events happening all around me.
I found that in music. Music composition – mostly with the piano – is a form of art thanks to which I can seek for relief, satisfaction, and retrospection. Creating helps me to focus and grow aware about the way (and the why!) things happen.
Once this process reaches its end, so does the song I am working on. And that composition becomes the heart of the feeling I then try to convey to the listeners.
The genres I focus the most on are Ambient, Neoclassical and Post-Rock.
Readers can find an example of my music on Digital Platforms by typing either ‘Edoardo Gastaldi – Grandfathers’ or ‘Cloud Opacity, Edoardo Gastaldi – Nothing Disappears’.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For the people reading for the first time about me, I am 23 years old. That stated, defining something as a ‘professional career’ at that stage of life is not the easiest thing for me. However, I feel quite confident in the steps I am taking, and the university environment I have been in since 3 years helped me to clear my mind and to focus on research and education.
What is more near to a career for me – aside from the artistic path, which represents the ‘counterpart’, let’s say, the other 50% of my life – is what keeps me both busy and interested on a daily basis: that spotlight goes to Science. I am enthusiastic about learning everything related to Environmental Sciences and I am currently doing an internship at Ca’ Foscari University (Venice, IT), together with a wonderful team supporting my work.
Pursuing such a path is not easy, the need of motivation, leadership, mindfulness and curiosity is vital.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Considering I live extremely near to Venice, my answer is of course ‘biased’. I would take my friend to see all of the wonderful architecture, histories, museums and landscapes hidden in the city.
I have got a kind of philosophical point-of-view in most of the things, so here I would suggest a very personal itinerary.
To go, where you feel. Actually in Venice, and I would say in Italy itself, in most of the places people can find the perfect spot as well as the more common ones. But that is not something strict, something objective.
Depending on who you are, on your approach to the sense of time and beauty, you may be attracted by a hill, rather than a castle.
Quite a curious thing about it, is that it recently happened to me (several times) to take people here and there. And I have been so stunned by the way different eyes give different weight to different things. It’s all subjective when it comes to taste.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the help of an outstanding environment and the people close to me, I would never be the person I am now. Being thankful to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others is something I am aware of, and that is exactly one of the reasons that pushes me to keep doing more and more.
I want to dedicate my story and my achievements to my family (I voluntarily keep its meaning ‘broad’). That said, I dedicate the success I had so far to my actual family, as well as to all of the other human beings I can – for one reason or another – call brother, sister, friend, home.
