We had the good fortune of connecting with Edwin Chisley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Edwin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risk has played a big role in my life/career simply because it has forced me to face & overcome my fears. For example career wise, having a regular 9 to 5 job eliminates the fear of not having “steady” income flow. In the beginning stages of entrepreneurship the income flow is no where near as steady as a regular 9 to 5. With that said, one day every entrepreneur must make a choice between the two because they two always end up clashing with each other. Most people give up because they’re afraid to take risk. It’s usually right when you’re reaching your breaking point that your “BIG BREAK” is on the brink. I took a big risk, quit my 9 to 5 job, and pursued my dream job full-time. I don’t regret that decision one bit. Every successful entrepreneur has taken risks.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional music composer and music artists for TV & Film. I have been blessed to have my music placed on TV Shows such as Tyler Perry’s “Sistas” & networks such as BET, CBS, WETV, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, + more. What’s most exciting is about what I do is sharing my value with the world. Rather that value is through the music itself or through mentoring others in my field.
Network marketing was the most successful technique I used to get where I am today professionally. I invested in myself, and decided to get a mentor. Not just any mentor, but one who showed proof that they were seeing the level of success that I desired to see.
It was not easy. It took almost a decade of investing, studying, research, & practice improving my skills. In the beginning the biggest challenge was taking losses financially. I had to come to the realization that investing in itself is a risk. Some investments felt like losses at first but brought huge profits in long run.
Once I experienced my first big profit from investing, this is what motivated me to keep going. I figured if I could make profits from investing once, I could do it again, & I was correct!
One of the main lessons I have learned during this journey is to have patience, & never give up. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Have fun taking risk, but do it strategically. Focus on one thing at a time, & only on the things you can control. The things you can’t control are a waste of time worrying about. Leave those things in the hands of the Creator.
My brand/story is all about faith, family, health, & wealth. In that exact order.
Matthew 6:33 states to seek God first, and His righteousness; and all these other things will be added unto us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re hitting up Downtown Cincinnati Riverbend Center for the music concerts. During football season, touching down at a Cincinnati Bengals home game. During baseball season we’re catching a Cincinnati Red’s home game. Hard Rock Casino for some gambling, and good eats. Over The Rhine has a whole lot to offer from food, to shopping, to parks, etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to give all thanks, honor, & praise to the Lord Jesus Christ for it is Him who blessed me with each and every gift I have.
