Meet Eeshan Kamath | Cinematographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eeshan Kamath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eeshan, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing outsiders might not realize about the film and cinematography industry is how much of the work is about collaboration and problem-solving on the fly. While the final product might appear seamless and artistic, the process often involves navigating unexpected challenges like working around weather changes, tight schedules, or equipment malfunctions and finding creative solutions as a team.
It’s not just about technical skills or artistic vision; it’s about adaptability, clear communication, and making the most of the resources at hand to tell a compelling story.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The film industry in LA is notoriously hard to penetrate. I started by networking—going to mixers, reaching out to filmmakers, and volunteering for a lot projects. Slowly, one opportunity led to another. I made mistakes but made it a point to analyze and improve with each project. Watching how other DoPs handled situations on set was incredibly educational.
Every project is unique, and being flexible is vital. Some of the best shots I’ve created came from spontaneous, on-set problem-solving.
It is never an easy road to success. There are ups and downs, there are hardships, there are good days and bad days. But at the end it all comes onto how you keep your calm.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That’s a thoughtful question. In this cut throat competition in the world, success is often a collaborative effort, so there are always others who play a pivotal role.
When I first moved to Los Angeles, I didn’t have any knowledge on how things work, didn’t know anyone in the industry.
There were my roommates who and some close friends who took the time to explain the ropes, give constructive feedback, or simply answer my endless questions. Later, when I graduated from school and came into the real world of filmmaking, I met some more incredible people who practically explained things to me. They didn’t have to, but their generosity created a strong foundation for me.
