We had the good fortune of connecting with Egypt McClure and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Egypt, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
For me, it was personal. I got tired of feeling like I was just surviving. After I had my second child, I looked at my life and thought, “This can’t be it.” My 9-to-5 wasn’t cutting it—not just financially, but emotionally. I needed something that made me feel proud, something that was mine.

Starting my business was my way of choosing me. I’ve had moments of doubt, I’ve second-guessed myself, but I knew I had to push through. I wanted to show not just the world, but myself, that I could build something bigger. That I could create a life where I wasn’t just working to get by, but actually living with purpose—and showing my kids what it looks like to go after your dreams, no matter what.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work at a mental health facility as a Program Assistant, and it’s taught me so much about how important self-care really is. A lot of times we pour into others and forget to take care of ourselves. That lesson inspired me to not only take better care of myself, but to build something that helps others do the same.

That’s where my love for doing hair comes in. When I do someone’s hair, it’s not just about looks—it’s about making them feel good inside and out. I want people to feel seen, cared for, and confident.

It hasn’t been easy getting here. I’ve had to push through a lot while juggling motherhood, work, and starting a business. But I’m proud that I kept going. I’m excited to blend what I do in mental health with my passion for beauty and create something meaningful.

I want people to know my brand is about more than just hair—it’s about healing, confidence, and showing up for yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, first things first—are we talking about my “I’m Outside” playlist? Because the mood starts with the music! I’m talking a little Justin Timberlake, some Future, Young Thug, a touch of old and new Lil Wayne, and of course, early 2000s rap—that always gets me hyped.

If my best friend was visiting for a week, we’re starting with brunch. I love a good brunch—mimosas flowing, good food, cute outfits, fresh oil-down, smelling and looking good! We’d hit up a few of my favorite brunch spots and maybe even find a karaoke brunch (which is a must for me). Singing, laughing, and vibing—it sets the tone!

Then we’d mix in some activities—maybe a museum visit for a little culture, or something fun and interactive. One of my favorite spots is Sunset Rooftop in Hollywood. It’s got a great vibe with female DJs, good food, strong drinks, and cool events like Love Island watch parties or sip and paint nights. It’s a chill but fun atmosphere, and there’s always something going on.

L.A. has so many hidden gems, but I love a good balance of fun, food, and feel-good vibes. That’s the type of trip I’d want to give my bestie—one where we’re laughing, vibing, and making memories the whole time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my kids first—they’re my biggest motivation and the reason I push through no matter what. I also want to thank my family and friends. There are too many names to list, but each one of them has played a part in my journey—whether it was through support, encouragement, or just believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself.

And lastly, I give credit to the version of me that kept going, even when it was hard. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m grateful for every person who helped me stay grounded and reminded me of my worth.
