We had the good fortune of connecting with Ela Ozturk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ela, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I love this question! I pursued an artistic career because I have always been a creative person and a storyteller. I definitely feel things deeply and have a need to express all of my emotions. This has led to my lifelong passion for music and art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you for asking! I would say my confessional lyrics and soulful voice definitely help me create a distinctive sound in my music and help set me apart from others. I am most excited about my newest release, “Roots,” and the music video for the song. As this song was a breakthrough for me as an artist and songwriter, “Roots” helped give me the closure I needed to heal at a time I was experiencing heartbreak.
I definitely wouldn’t say my journey so far was anything from easy, I had a lot of setbacks before I was even able to get to a place where I could put out music. Some lessons I learned along the way are that you can’t do it alone and that the journey is way more fun with a team of people who believe in you. I would want the world to know that my music is for everybody and anybody who has gone through or can relate to the hardships I sing about and that I’m grateful for them for letting my music into their lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, this is a good question! San Francisco is the most lively city to visit. I would highly recommend visiting the Golden gate bridge, Union Square, and visiting the “Full house” house, just to name a few. Food-wise, there’s a wide variety of delicious food spots in the city to go to, like the Fisherman’s Wharf. I would also recommend the “Foreign Cinema,” where you can eat restaurant-style and watch a movie. Lastly, I would recommend a good museum in SF. I personally love the Modern Museum of Art.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed enough to have had a lot of people help me along my Journey! Someone who believed in my artistry is my best friend and producer-film director, Morgan Clae. Morgan is a long time collaborator of mine and has helped me find my sound and build my confidence as an artist.
