We had the good fortune of connecting with Elijah Dickson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elijah, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has been pretty much my biggest thing I’ve been focused on my whole time with my career. I constantly invest in myself and am very experimental with trying new things so it truly doesn’t phase me with new stuff. This has helped my life greatly due to how I’m not scared of losing. Being careless enough to live with the outcome and know that I can learn from wins or losses has made my life a lot easier. I will continue to take risks especially when it comes to potentially evolving myself or my career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So my art is truly always a piece of me every time I work on it. I truly focus on making my sure my work evokes emotions and is connective for everyone I work with. I feel like one of the best ways to do that for me is focusing on how I can love imperfection and truly just create great work. I got to where I am today through consistent work and just experimenting with different things. I would definitely say that it has been nothing close to easy but it’s been a great journey through everything. Times where I haven’t been booked and have been having dry months definitely made it very hard to want to keep going but overtime I just started creating work and opportunity for myself while there may be off days. So even when work would normally be slow I am always putting time in. I want the world to know that it’s okay to just be great. Everyone always strives to be the best so they constantly go through the battle of comparing themselves with someone else or beating up themselves when they feel they don’t do enough. As long as you keep putting in time, effort, and energy into learning and bettering your craft I believe you can do anything.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take them to Venice Beach just so they can start off getting beach vibes from the area to start off. I feel like getting the beach and nature energy would be very essential for a trip like this so that would be perfect to kick it off and hopefully we would be able to go Signal Hill Park as well. Starting off with great overlooks and the beach would be perfect. Out here I feel like it’s only right for food that we try out Fixins Soul Kitchen in Downtown LA would be a must and Roscoes. For the Fun we would defintely be going to Knotts Berry farm,

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honesty If I had to give credit to anyone I would say the Drew League was my one of the biggest stepping stone pieces in my career. The Drew League was the first place that I truly started doing sports photography and to an extent the first place that I took this lane serious. They helped me improve my ability to be stable, my overall camera skills, and improved my technique greatly. I was allowed to come in and take pictures for free and take pictures for a lot of big names in the sports world such as Lebron James, Demar Derozan, and Trae Young very early. This and being able to come back the next summer being an official videographer was great for being able to level up my ability and start taking my career serious. Thank you to the Drew League and their staff and I want to give a big shout to them!
